Position Summary:As a Staff Accountant, Tax on our Finance team, you will play a critical role in supporting SPS Commerce's direct and indirect tax compliance functions. This includes data gathering and analysis, tax research, audits, quarterly tax provisions, monthly compliance, and customer billing inquiries. You'll work closely with third-party providers and partner with the billing, accounting, and financial reporting teams. This role reports directly to the Domestic Tax Manager.

What You'll Do:

  • Reconcile and analyze monthly tax reports generated from various billing systems
  • Prepare and record journal entries in Oracle and prepare tax account reconciliations in accordance with internal SOX controls
  • Assist with preparation of tax return and tax provision workpapers and calculations
  • Prepare responses to government agency notices and information requests for income and sales and use tax audits
  • Partner with third parties to ensure accurate preparation, review, and filing of recurring sales and use returns and other government-mandated business filings including annual reports, unclaimed property returns, and franchise tax returns
  • Monitor state and federal law changes and document the impact to the company
  • Manage the tax filing due date calendar to ensure timely filing of returns and payments
  • Research and provide timely responses to tax-related customer billing inquiries
  • Monitor and manage tax department email
  • Assist with projects and initiatives as needed

Where You'll Work:

This role is hybrid out of our headquarters in Minneapolis, MN about 2x a week. We Succeed Together through in-person collaboration, balanced with remote work to provide flexibility.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of relevant public or private experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiarity with direct and indirect tax regulations for federal, state, and local jurisdictions
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex information to audiences with varying levels of expertise
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills in particular
  • Curiosity, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and grow as a subject matter expert
  • SaaS or software company experience preferred
  • Experience with Bloomberg, Checkpoint, or similar tax research tools preferred

The salary range for this role considers several factors, including education, relevant skills, work history, certifications, location, and more.

The annual salary range for this role is: $61,300 - $95,000. The actual salary offered will be determined based on the factors listed above and may fall anywhere within the range.
