Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Staff Accountant-I to join our Statutory Controllership team.


This role will work directly with the US Statutory Reporting team and assist in the preparation and submission of quarterly and annual financial statements with the State Insurance Departments.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory financial filings.
  • Gain exposure to Statutory Accounting Principles.
  • Support the compiling and organizing of financial data in accordance.
  • Prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Support the documentation of internal controls and procedures related to statutory reporting.
  • Work with the Investment team to ensure statutory investment data elements are collected and updated in the Clearwater investment system.
  • Help gather data for external auditors and regulatory examiners.
  • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by senior staff.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Pivot tables, and basic understanding of financial statements.
  • Interest in insurance accounting or regulatory reporting is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
