Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a knowledgeable and talented Web Developer to join our Digital Marketing team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a creative team with a focus on growth. You will own the development, management, and optimization of the underlying code base and technology architecture of Applied Systems' global suite of websites and digital properties.
You will also partner closely with key stakeholders across the Marketing department to communicate technical requirements, provide reviews and status updates on key projects, contribute to coding best practices and documentation, and ensure a seamless and engaging user experience across all global web properties white ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates.
What You'll Do
Optimization and Maintenance:

  • End-to-end website management, including the development of new functionality and ongoing maintenance and support across marketing websites for the Applied Systems family of brands.
  • Ensure technical optimization of website through best practice architecture and page load speed optimization.
  • Ensure websites maintain appropriate levels of privacy control and accessibility standards.
  • Work closely with internal Security team to audit and maintain web security standards and best practices. Conducts monthly audits using various tools to ensure code meets various standards.
  • Provide research and recommendations for new features across web properties.
  • Work directly with DXP Vendor (Optimizely) on support requests, as well as platform upgrades and product roadmap reviews.
  • Provide occasional off-hours support of websites, including website updates and migrations, domain transfers and security fixes.


Program Organization:

  • Be responsible for weekly sprint planning and weekly production code pushes
  • Accept and triages inbound web-related issues and errors.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new business processes that improve efficiency and enhance productivity.
  • Ensure best practices are upheld for web development, including documentation.


Collaboration and Communication:

  • Communicate new features/functionality to the larger Marketing team.
  • Collaborate closely with Design team on the implementation of designs, UX review and usability testing.
  • Translate website requests into technical requirements.
  • Assist with development and support of a Junior Developer


Quality Control:

  • Maintain a high integrity of quality assurance by developing processes and documentation, training supporting stakeholders if needed.


What You'll Need to Succeed
We're looking for someone who:

  • Can work hybrid from our Toronto office (1 day per week).
  • Has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Web Development (or similar education).


Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in HTML, CSS/SASS, JavaScript, along with .NET and C# / XML / JSON or equivalent DXP systems (Optimizely, Adobe, Sitecore, Wordpress, Drupal, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas:
    • Version Control Software & Tools (Git, GitHub, GitKraken preferred).
    • Google Tag Manager.
    • WCAG guidelines and web accessibility best practices.
    • Creative & wireframing tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc)
    • Analytics and Optimization tools (Google Analytics, Siteimprove, etc).
    • Working with key stakeholders across teams/departments to define technical requirements and successfully launch projects on time.
    • Cross-browser testing and cross-platform compatibility, including experience with QA & testing tools (Browser Stack, etc).
    • Developing a responsive, mobile-first user experience.
  • Quick mastery of existing applications and their maintenance, as well as recommend ways to continually improve.
  • The ability to clearly communicate technical details and collaborate well with non-technical staff to understand business needs and project requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot code.
  • Be up-to-date with latest trends, techniques, best-practices and technologies.
