About the role: 

We are looking for a self-starting, detail-oriented, experienced Technical Writer to join our SaaS documentation team and help us on our mission to provide our users the information they need to be successful – in real time. To accomplish this, we create online IT administrator docs and KB-style articles, as well as in-app labels and messages. 

In the process of creating content for our SaaS identity management customers, you’ll work with members of several other teams: Product Management, Engineering, UX/UI design, DevOps, QA, Professional Services and Support in a dynamic, continuous delivery deployment environment. You’ll need to be willing to dig for answers sometimes.

What success looks like in the role: 

Within the first 30 days you will: 

  • Onboard in your new role, get familiar with our products, tooling, and processes. 
  • Get to know your team and proactively meet and start to build positive relationships with your stakeholders. 
  • Complete small writing tasks and peer reviews to begin to understand and apply the SaaS documentation processes and standards. 
  • Prioritize your work to meet the dynamic timelines of product documentation written for continuous deployment. 

By 90 days: 

  • Serve as lead writer for one or more products, exhibiting personal task and time management as well as cross-team coordination. 
  • Proactively coordinate with engineering/PM teams on assignments and information requirements, managing workload to meet scheduled delivery dates. 
  • Begin to understand your products at a deeper level. 
  • Collaborate closely with other writers to edit shared content and integrate new content for cross-functional projects. 
  • Understand the business goals and how our documentation requirements align with and contribute to these goals. 

By 6 months: 

  • Be comfortable in your role and with the day-to-day management of your workload. 
  • Fully integrate as a key stakeholder within your product teams. 
  • Document products and feature sets with advanced capabilities. 
  • Identify the information needs of a target audience, then organize and develop technical documentation that adequately addresses those needs. 
  • Show a firm understanding of the business problems your products solve and how the products address those business problems. 
  • Share ideas on how to improve the documentation as well as team processes to function more efficiently and effectively. 
  • Review your documentation sets and identify opportunities to improve the structure of the content. 

By 1 year: 

  • Work independently on larger tasks and projects. With minimal guidance, evaluate trade-offs to move projects forward with speed and high quality. 
  • Collaborate effectively with members of the team, providing feedback outside of their core area of responsibility. 
  • Set the bar for quality documentation and consistently deliver on your commitments, producing high-quality results in a reasonable timeframe. 

Requirements: 

  • 8+ years of professional writing experience, backed by a degree in English or a related field 
     
  • Must have advanced skills in writing and formatting content using Markdown
  • Experience writing content for non-technical & technical audiences, such as IT administrators 
  • Excellent collaboration & communication skills (both verbal and written) 
  • Proven ability to research and experiment with unfamiliar subject matter 
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment 

Preferred Skills & Experience: 

  • Professional writing experience on a SaaS product 
     
  • CI/CD pipeline management experience
  • Familiarity with content strategy, SEO, and information architecture 
  • Working in HTML (or other markup language) & .css for online delivery 
  • Understanding of identity management, governance and compliance 
  • Comfortable following Agile methodologies & using issue tracking tools

Benefits and Compensation listed vary based on the location of your employment and the nature of your employment with SailPoint.


As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the SailPoint Corporate Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission, along with potential eligibility for equity participation. SailPoint maintains broad salary ranges for its roles to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect SailPoint’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity. We estimate the base salary, for US-based employees, will be in this range from (min-max, USD):

$75,800 - $127,794.00

Base salaries for employees based in other locations are competitive for the employee’s home location.
