Senior Systems Engineer – Power Conversion
Job Description
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the design, integration, and validation of advanced power conversion systems for solar power plant applications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring reliable and efficient operation of utility-scale photovoltaic systems. The engineer will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams including electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, controls and cloud engineering to deliver innovative solutions that maximize energy yield and system uptime. The ideal candidate is a talented engineer who demonstrates strong knowledge of systems engineering and electrical/power electronics engineering principles, analytical skills, system-level mindset, commitment to innovation, attention to details, and passion for the solar industry. This position is based in Sorocaba and will report to the Manager of Systems Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Communicate with product management, electrical, mechanical, firmware, software and cloud engineering to understand the customer needs and translate them into engineering requirements and practical design solutions.
Perform system architecture design, including functional block diagrams, data flows and interface definition across hardware, firmware, digital applications and cloud systems.
Develop and manage system level requirements from definition to implementation and verification.
Lead integration efforts across mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and cloud components, ensuring robust operation from prototype to production.
Create and implement test plans to bring up, debug, and validate designs to meet functional and performance goals with a focus on safety and reliability.
Support integration and validation of hardware, firmware, digital applications, communications, and cloud services.
Gather, process, and analyze field data and factory test data to guide the investigation and resolution of service anomalies and improve future products.
Participate in system level design and process FMEAs to ensure design robustness, safety, and reliability.
Design, simulate and execute performance evaluations of power conversion and inverter systems.
Support definition of cybersecurity, data integrity, access control, and secure connectivity requirements.
Required Qualifications
BS or MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field.
5+ years’ hands on experience designing complex electromechanical, power conversion, or energy systems.
2+ years’ experience in Systems Engineering.
Familiarity with relevant standards and regulatory requirements for grid-connected power systems and cybersecurity.
Experience with the full product lifecycle, from requirement definition to design, production, operation and service.
Experience operating in a multi-disciplinary and cross-functional environment involving hardware, firmware, software, or cloud systems.
Experience performing trade studies and lifecycle cost analysis.
Experience writing requirement specifications, interface specifications, verification plans and test plans.
Strong eyes toward safety, constructability, system maintenance, reliability, and cybersecurity.
Advanced or fluent English
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with requirement management process and tools (Jama preferred).
Knowledge of Python, MATLAB/Simulink and C applied to modeling, controls, firmware and analysis.
Experience with embedded firmware, real-time control systems, diagnostics, or firmware update processes.
Experience with digital applications, APIs, data platforms, monitoring systems, or fleet management tools.
Familiarity with cloud architecture, IoT platforms, device connectivity, time-series data, analytics, and remote monitoring.
Experience with FMEA, root cause analysis, investigation of service anomalies.
Understanding of solar energy systems.
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and technologies such as Modbus, CAN, Ethernet, MQTT, IEC 61850, DNP3 or SunSpec.
