We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer – Exchange/eDiscovery to support enterprise messaging operations, archiving, and eDiscovery workflows across secure federal environments. This role provides senior-level technical leadership for Microsoft Exchange (on-prem and cloud), Microsoft 365 messaging architecture, and compliance/eDiscovery solutions supporting mission-critical federal programs. The right candidate brings deep expertise in messaging platforms, legal hold processes, and security‑driven configuration management, along with the ability to guide engineering teams and interface directly with federal stakeholders.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the design, configuration, operation, and maintenance of Microsoft Exchange (on-prem, hybrid, and Microsoft 365).

  • Architect and support eDiscovery, litigation hold, compliance, and retention workflows in Microsoft Purview and related M365 environments.

  • Manage and optimize messaging security, including anti-spam, anti-phishing, mail flow rules, DLP, and compliance controls.

  • Provide senior engineering guidance for mailbox migrations, hybrid integrations, and messaging modernization efforts.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to mail flow, transport, connectors, routing, authentication, and compliance.

  • Maintain documentation of configurations, operational procedures, system inventory, and security hardening standards.

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, network engineering, and cloud operations to ensure secure and compliant messaging posture.

  • Support audits, security assessments, STIG alignment, and RMF/ATO activities as related to messaging and eDiscovery systems.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering process improvements, automation, and continuous integration initiatives.

What You Will Need:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • An ACTIVE and MAINTAINED "TOP SECRET" Federal or DoD security clearance and ability to obtain SCI.

  • Minimum of Six (6) years of in enterprise email, messaging, or collaboration engineering.

  • Bachelor's degree or four(4) additional years of experience is needed in lieu of degree.

  • Strong expertise with Microsoft Exchange (on-premises, hybrid, and Microsoft 365).

  • Experience with eDiscovery, retention policies, compliance workflows, and legal hold mechanisms in M365.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting secure or regulated IT environments (federal, DoW, law enforcement, or similar).

  • Deep understanding of DNS, SMTP, certificates, authentication (OAuth/Modern Auth), mail routing, and messaging security controls.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead technical initiatives and coordinate across cross-functional teams.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Microsoft 365 Messaging – MS‑203.

  • Microsoft eDiscovery / Compliance – MS‑500 or SC‑400.

  • Security+ (strongly preferred for DoD 8570 compliance),

  • Experience supporting Microsoft Purview compliance center.

  • Familiarity with government cloud environments (GCC, GCC‑High, DoD).

  • Knowledge of virtualization, cloud identity (AAD), and conditional access.

  • Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell strongly preferred).

  • Understanding of Zero‑Trust principles and federal compliance frameworks (NIST 800‑53, RMF, STIGs).

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$216,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
