Join the LEGO® Group Creative Play Lab and invent ground-breaking new play opportunities and never-seen-before creative experiences for LEGO fans of today and tomorrow! As an individual contributor in our Hardware and Embedded Systems Group in the Play Engineering organization, you'll be based in Boston but operating on a global scale.  Our group is charged with using some of the latest technology to revolutionize play!

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior individual contributor accountable for delivering innovative, highly complex mechanical product development and industrialization solutions to enable us to deliver revolutionary play experiences at scale.

  • Lead appropriate mechanical engineering activities on projects, often involving leading multiple other mechanical engineers and collaborating with other types of engineers.

  • Demonstrate mastery of core mechanical engineering skills such as:

  • Concept development, rapid prototyping, multiphysics simulation, experimental design, creative problem solving, risk and cost management, production intent design, CAD, tolerances, DFX, collaboration with process engineering, and similar

  • Ensure mechanical solutions are aligned with our architectural blueprint, and meet all safety/regulatory/quality requirements and all other agreed-to requirements.

  • Demonstrate by example excellence in engineering, teamwork, innovation, risk management/mitigation, and delivery.

  • Collaborate with other team members from Boston, Denmark, and Singapore to support our global capability growth efforts.

The Senior Staff Engineer, Mechanical Engineering is a highly experienced individual contributor serving as part of our mechanical engineering pillar in the Play Engineering Hardware and Embedded Systems Group. This group operates on a global scale within the Play Engineering organization in Product & Marketing Development at the LEGO Group. The role is based in Boston, where LEGO Play Engineering is expanding our global footprint to support our portfolio as we redefine the future of play for the builders of tomorrow.

Do you have what it takes?

  • A builder with passion for creatively using technology as a vehicle to deliver truly awesome play experiences to children around the world.

  • Significant experience in mechanical engineering design and development roles that involve leading from idea stage to mass production on projects involving robotics/mechatronics, microelectronics, complex systems, low power electronics and battery technology, or other similar domains.

  • Strong experience in modern high-volume mechanical systems development in relevant markets (e.g. consumer electronics, robotics, medical device, automotive, or similar).

  • Experience with key mechanical component providers and manufacturing partners.

  • Evidence of strong capabilities in creative technical problem solving in complex mechanical systems, coupled with well-balanced people skills.

  • Track record of strong written and verbal communications skills on global engineering efforts involving both internal and 3rd party partner companies.

  • Ability to travel globally as necessary, roughly 20-30 days per year, as part of our global team.

New Location Update

This position will initially be based at 501 Boylston St or 10 St. James Street in Boston, before moving to a new office location at 1001 Boylston St by mid-2025. Our hiring teams will discuss this with you during the interview stages.

Compensation

The salary for this position has a range of $124,700 - $187,000 based on anticipated responsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints. The LEGO Group carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including but not limited to prior experience, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive remuneration details, inclusive of benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.
