We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA 

Job Duties: Design and implement new, highly scalable, resilient, and available services, microservices, publishers, subscribers, and batches. Work with architects and design review board members to ensure that plans stay aligned with PayPal’s roadmap for new products and platform updates within Payments Data Services (PDS). Collaborate cross-functionally with PayPal’s development team in India and cross-functional teams in the U.S., such as One Financial Interface, PayPal Accounting, Treasury, Regulatory Reporting, Tax Reporting, Enterprise Data Lake, and Financial Planning and Analytics. Lead reviewing design proposals for all projects developed within the PDS Platform, ensuring alignment with PayPal’s overall architecture and system design standards. Actively participate in company-wide architecture discussions and design review meetings to ensure that the PDS Platform aligns with PayPal’s overall architectural vision, including its subsidiaries (Venmo, Braintree, Xoom, Paydiant, and iZettle). Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field such as Electronics Engineering plus five years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements:

1. Experience in designing and delivering backend and mid-tier services using Spring Boot, REST API, Java, Spark, BigQuery, and BigTable technologies (5 years)

2. Experience in designing and building highly scalable distributed services (4 years)

3. Experience with real time streamlining technologies such as Kafka and GCP Pub Sub (4 years)

4. Experience developing data-driven applications using Spring Boot (4 years)

5. Experience tuning and writing scalable SQL queries in RDBMS (Oracle) and analytical stores (4 years)

6. Experience with GCP services (BigQuery, BigTable, Cloud Storage, and DataProc) (3 years)

7. Experience with Hadoop technology ecosystem – HDFS, Spark, Hive, Impala, HBase, Kafka, Shell Scripting, Oracle, and Data pipeline (3 years)

8. Experience with leading a team of 2–5 engineers as a Tech Lead, defining scope, estimates, and plans, and contributing to the technical roadmap and vision (3 years)

9. Experience with using and integrating monitoring, job scheduling, and alerting frameworks and tools such as Splunk, Datadog, and Log4j (4 years)

10. Experience with  developing APIs using REST, Protocol Buffers (Proto), and GraphQL, while maintaining security and context for external endpoints. (3 years)

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

Primary Location | Pay Range: 

San Jose, California | Salary: $169,262.00-243,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
