Job Description

Sr Scientist

This position requires an active NACI clearance or the ability to obtain a NACI clearance to be considered.

Cherokee Nation Operational Solutions (CNOS) is seeking a motivated Senior Research Scientist to join our team and contribute to critical public health evaluation activities. In this role, you will conduct research to develop and assess new diagnostic methods for rapid response to potential influenza and other pathogen outbreaks. You will also work on improving existing diagnostic methods and vaccine development processes

Pay commensurate with experience.

Sr Scientist Responsibilities Include:

  • Initiate and execute scientific research and/or studies.
  • Analyses problems and applies theoretical techniques and solutions
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) s, technical reports and manuals.
  • Perform biological techniques such as: stock preparation, cloning, isolation, and inactivation
  • Conduct laboratory testing in vitro and in animals
  • Perform high complexity testing which may include conducting research and diagnostic tasks in Biosafety Level 2 Enhanced/Plus (BSL2E) and Biosafety Level 3 Enhanced/Plus (BSL3E) laboratories.
  • Provide overarching lab support, maintenance, logistics, inventory, and compliance support for the laboratories in accordance with current laboratory procedures.
  • Document and maintain records of all laboratory activities including experimental results, laboratory inventories, reports, queries, and data.
  • Train and provide guidance to junior staff
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Comply with all requirements for laboratory safety and security
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Sr Scientist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • MS and approximately 4 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or related biological science.
  • Prior experience working with viruses, animal models, and or influenza is a plus
  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques including ELISA, PCR, RT-PCR, NGS, flow cytometry and cloning.
  • Knowledge of laboratory and safety regulations including CLIA, ISO and or OSHA standards
  • Excellent organizational, documentation and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to follow strict timing guidelines for all scheduled operations and experiments.
  • Work in a BSL2E and/or BSL3E.
  • Experience in flow cytometry.
  • Experience in Influenza virology (virus handling in cell culture, serological assay, reverse genetics)
  • Experience in vaccine development and generation and related animal work
  • Recent experience in lab
  • Ability to accurately collect, collate and enter data into a database.
  • Experience with data analysis software to include Microsoft Excel
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
