The Senior Sales Manager will be responsible for leading and winning high-value, complex project pursuits from early identification to final contract award. This role requires a strategic thinker with exceptional leadership skills, capable of coordinating cross-functional teams to develop and execute winning sales and proposal strategies. The successful candidate will build and nurture strong relationships with key clients, partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure sustained business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead pursuit strategy: Qualify and develop winning strategies for major project opportunities by collaborating with sales leadership and technical experts.
- Drive proposal development: Oversee the entire proposal process, ensuring high-quality and timely submissions. This includes leading kick-off meetings, developing project plans, managing budgets, and coordinating with technical and creative teams.
- Build client relationships: Engage early with key stakeholders, including end-users, engineering firms (EPCs), and internal teams, to understand project dynamics and build strong, trusting partnerships.
- Market and competitive analysis: Conduct competitive analysis and use market insights to develop compelling win themes and value propositions that differentiate the company from competitors.
- Stakeholder engagement: Manage communication and expectations with all stakeholders, including senior management and project delivery teams, providing regular updates on pursuit progress and risks.
- Lead and coach: Act as a "player-coach," providing mentorship and guidance to pursuit and sales teams. Lead coaching sessions for presentations and oral submissions to prepare teams for client meetings.
- Process improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the company's knowledge, skills, and overall pursuit success rate.
- Performance reporting: Utilize CRM tools to track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), forecast business outcomes, and analyze win/loss rates.
Key Experience & Capabilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in sales, business development, or project acquisition within a relevant industry.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and winning large, complex project pursuits in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Deep understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and the capital projects ecosystem.
- Experience in sales tools such as Salesforce.
- Leadership: Strong ability to lead, motivate, and manage cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and compellingly.
- Strategic thinking: Ability to think strategically and long-term about business needs, anticipate trends, and identify opportunities.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and manage relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Resilient and adaptable in the face of change and uncertainty, with a proactive problem-solving mindset.
