In this role, you will lead selected areas within the control monitoring and/or issue management processes within the business risk and controls department. Document business controls, including but not limited to risk and control matrices, process and data flows, and/or supporting documentation. Complete control monitoring according to a monitoring plan directed towards validating, and subsequently assessing, whether proper controls and oversight are in place and consistently executed, and that processes and procedures are appropriate for purposes of compliance related to government guidelines and law.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor risk and control analysts during multi-person assignments/projects by providing insight and perspective to reduce risk and positively impact the organization
- Act as subject matter expert to senior stakeholders and /or other team members to ensure issues are resolved timely and risk appropriately mitigated across the organization
- Advocate on the businesses' behalf when working with the 2nd and 3rd lines of defense to identify mutually agreed upon solutions
- Collaborate with business owners in designing effective controls to mitigate risks within their processes and with the line of business to allow for findings to be closed within established due dates
- Determine the root cause of issues and documents well-thought-out issue statements and recommended remediation plans to make certain the risk is addressed across the organization
- Develop the steps needed to test and independently executes testing for compliance with complex processes and laws/regulations to provide assurance controls are designed and operate effectively, including the ability to identify when a different testing approach is necessary
- Collaborate with business owners to create comprehensive remediation plans for issues arising from internal/external reviews or business self-identification. Review with key stakeholders reporting on the status and results of risk related monitoring, including issues and events
- Communicate control testing and monitoring results and potential findings to senior management in a clear and concise manner
- Remain current with business processes, rules and applicable CFPB and NCUA guidelines, State of Illinois guidelines applicable to financial services organizations for issues tracking and remediation and monitoring programs
- Lead complex, solution-based discussions/projects to mitigate risk within the credit union
- Manage through conflict, finds common ground and obtains issue resolution effectively, while maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality and discretion
- Lead operational risk oversight for new enterprise initiatives to effectively identify and recommend controls for the associated risks
Education:
- High School or Equivalent - Minimum
- Bachelors Degree - Business, Finance or Related - Preferred
Years of Experience:
- 7 years - Testing, audit, quality control, risk compliance, control or related - Minimum
