Summary Generated by Built In

At Aplazo, our mission is to empower financial access, opportunity and freedom, by connecting people and businesses in Latin America, through fair, simple, and transparent financial solutions.

The Opportunity:

We’re looking for a seasoned and technically fluent Senior Product Manager to take full ownership of our Payments & Infrastructure domain. This person will lead the evolution of our in-house payment orchestration platform, scale connections with PSPs, and build the infrastructure that supports scalable, resilient, and compliant payment and credit capabilities.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a product leader who thrives at the intersection of payments, data, and platform engineering. You’ll own complex domains including money movement, authorization and acceptance rate optimization, 3DS implementation, fraud prevention, collections infrastructure, and financial data reconciliation. You don’t just define what to build — you dig into the data, run the analyses, and drive decisions with evidence.

What You’ll Do:

Strategy & Ownership
  • Define and execute the payment orchestration strategy, improving conversion, reducing latency, maximizing reliability, and lowering transaction costs.

  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of our internal orchestration platform and third-party PSP integrations.

  • Own technical product roadmaps that align with company priorities, regulatory requirements, and market trends across LATAM.

  • Drive the strategy for money movement rails — including card networks, bank transfers (STP, SPEI), and alternative payment methods — ensuring coverage, redundancy, and cost-efficiency.

Payment Performance & Acceptance Rate Optimization
  • Own the authorization and acceptance rate improvement agenda: identify decline patterns, root-cause PSP and issuer-side failures, and implement routing and retry logic to maximize approval rates.

  • Monitor and optimize key metrics including authorization rates, transaction costs, latency, chargeback ratios, and settlement accuracy.

  • Partner with data and engineering to build dashboards and alerting systems that give real-time visibility into payment health.

  • Lead A/B testing, analytics, market research, usability studies, and competitive analysis to drive decision-making.

3DS, Fraud & Risk
  • Own the product strategy for 3D Secure (3DS 2.x) implementation — balancing friction, conversion, and liability shift across merchant segments.

  • Define and prioritize fraud prevention capabilities, working with risk, data science, and external fraud vendors (e.g., Oscilar, Sardine, SEON, Kount, Socure).

  • Collaborate on antifraud rule-setting, model integration, and chargeback management to reduce financial losses while preserving user experience.

Collections Infrastructure
  • Own the product roadmap for collections — from early-stage delinquency nudges to late-stage recovery flows.

  • Define and improve collections strategies including payment reminders, retry logic, dunning flows, settlement negotiation tools, and third-party agency integrations.

  • Work closely with finance and operations to ensure collections infrastructure is compliant, efficient, and data-driven.

Data Reconciliation & Financial Data Management
  • Drive the strategy and execution of data reconciliation processes between Aplazo’s ledger, PSP settlement reports, bank statements, and internal financial systems.

  • Identify and close gaps in financial data pipelines that affect reporting accuracy, chargeback resolution, and regulatory compliance.

  • Define data schemas, event taxonomy, and data quality standards for payment flows end-to-end.

  • Use SQL and Python to explore data, validate hypotheses, audit reconciliation gaps, and build ad hoc analyses that inform product decisions.

Infrastructure & Scalability
  • Collaborate with engineering to ensure platform resilience, scale, and compliance across payment flows.

  • Shape a long-term vision for infrastructure modernization — balancing innovation with stability and regulatory requirements.

  • Define and manage SLAs for critical payment systems, with clear escalation paths and incident response playbooks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with engineering, business development, data science, operations, finance, compliance, and risk to ensure alignment across the organization.

  • Engage with external providers — PSPs, gateways, orchestration platforms, fraud vendors — to understand capabilities, negotiate improvements, and drive integrations.

  • Act as the internal subject matter expert on payments, educating stakeholders on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices.

Customer-Centric Problem Solving
  • Advocate for merchants and consumers by deeply understanding their payment experience, friction points, and failure modes.

  • Design and implement solutions that balance usability, scalability, and regulatory compliance while delivering measurable value.

What We’re Looking For:

Experience:

  • 5+ years of product management experience, or 7+ years of relevant business/technical experience — with significant tenure in payments, fintech, consumer finance, or e-commerce.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in two or more of the following domains: payment orchestration, money movement, acceptance rate optimization, 3DS, fraud prevention, collections, or financial data reconciliation.

  • 3+ years working closely with backend engineering teams on APIs, platform infrastructure, or data pipelines.

  • Academic background in Business, Economics, Accounting, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

Skills:

  • Payments depth: Strong working knowledge of payment networks, PSP integrations, authorization flows, settlement cycles, chargebacks, and LATAM-specific payment methods (STP, SPEI, cards).

  • Data fluency: Proficient in SQL; working knowledge of Python for data analysis is highly desirable. Comfortable querying large datasets, building analyses, and communicating findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Technical acumen: Solid grasp of APIs, data models, event-driven architectures, and system design trade-offs. Able to participate meaningfully in technical discussions and challenge engineering assumptions.

  • Analytical rigor: Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of using data to identify opportunities, size impact, and validate outcomes.

  • Communication & influence: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage diverse stakeholders — from engineers to C-suite executives and external partners.

  • Prioritization: Highly skilled in prioritization and project management, with a focus on customer and business outcomes over activity.

  • Languages: Fluent in Spanish; professional working proficiency in English.

Mindset:

  • Hands-on and execution-oriented — you don’t wait for perfect information; you dig in, learn fast, and iterate.

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and driving clarity in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

  • Data-driven but pragmatic — you know when to run the analysis and when to make the call.

  • Collaborative and customer-obsessed, with a bias toward outcomes over output.

  • Eager to stay current with the evolving payments landscape across LATAM and globally.
