About the job

As Product Manager on the Disruption team, you will work at the intersection of the business, software development, data science, and user experience to create innovative products and intuitive user experiences to reduce the stress of traveling. You will have a competitive understanding of the travel landscape to facilitate the creation of successful new features. On any given day - whether you’re weighing the tradeoffs of offering new features, scoping and specifying solutions with partners, or shepherding features through development - your contribution will be critical to Hopper’s current and future success.

Leveraging data science to solve customers’ problems is in Hopper’s DNA. While this began with helping customers save money by booking at the best time with our Price Prediction, we’ve also built a suite of novel Fintech products which help customers save money, retain optionality to cancel or change their trips as needed, and help them seamlessly rebook when they run into problems during their travel.

This position is on the Disruption team, focused on solving that last problem. Hopper offers a product called Premium Disruption Assistance that helps our customers navigate flight delays, cancellations, or missed connections, and ultimately get where they want to be. If a customer experiences a disruption, they can rebook themselves on any airline – for free – or get a 100% refund of their trip cost. The Disruption team is expanding rapidly by creating new products, offering our existing products in new distribution channels, and scaling the business into an enterprise. As the Product Manager for the Disruption team, you are part of a cross functional team that is dedicated to this specific product; you will have immense impact, experience no gatekeeping, and no competing priorities, allowing you to truly focus on product work and your customers!

What would your day-to-day look like:

  • Manage a product roadmap across several different business objectives, ensuring that we are executing against the highest impact items at any given time, and deliver things on time.
  • Work closely with external partners on new and existing implementations; earn and maintain trust by building good relationships.
  • Rapidly test sound hypotheses through new merchandising experiments at different points in the customer journey to increase revenue
  • Talk to customers frequently to gather qualitative data, and quantify it, to deeply understand their problems (and/or our opportunities); survey customers frequently to collect feedback
  • Conduct market research to understand traveler needs in different regions of the world
  • Use data to identify user behavior and purchase patterns, which directly lead to hypotheses around opportunities that can be measurably validated/invalidated through simple experiments
  • Build new products, end to end: from idea to research to design to development to customer service to optimization. This person will launch things from the ground up and grow them into mature products.
  • Work with customer service to understand and identify customer problem trends
  • Work with back-end and front-end engineers, designers, legal, and many other stakeholders to launch innovative features quickly and bug-free
  • Learn and use a diverse set of tools, especially analytics tools

An ideal candidate has:

  • Thrived in a consumer product role and delivered delightful features at scale
  • Strong experience, knowledge of, and/or keen interest in Fintech, Insurtech, or risk-based products
  • An innovative and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • B2B and B2C experience
  • Ability to navigate both the forest and the trees. Extreme attention to detail, and simultaneously the ability to think and operate strategically.
  • Exceptional ability to grasp, manage, and articulate complex systems
  • Experience connecting innovative solutions to real-world, user problems with actual business needs of a rapidly scaling organization
  • Technical depth that allows you to communicate with, understand, and earn the respect of world-class engineers and data scientists
  • A track record of being proactive and persuading colleagues by constructing a compelling narrative both in-person and in-writing
  • Past success analyzing data, drawing accurate conclusions, and adjusting strategy accordingly
  • No ego, and a strong focus on doing what is right for the customer and the company

  • Well-funded and proven startup with large ambitions, competitive salary and the upsides of pre-IPO equity packages.
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • Carrot Cash travel stipend.
  • Access to co-working space on demand through FlexDesk AND Work-from-home stipend.
  • Please ask us about our very generous parental leave, much above industry standards!.
  • Entrepreneurial culture where pushing limits and taking risks is everyday business.
  • Open communication with management and company leadership.
  • Small, dynamic teams = massive impact.
  • 100% employer paid Medical, Dental and Vision coverage for employees.
  • Access to Disability & Life insurance.
  • Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).
