Sr Principal Architect

As a Sr. Principal Architect at HERE, you will play a pivotal role in enabling customer success through high-quality, effective technical partnerships. You will be responsible for designing and validating robust, scalable system architectures that support the creation, maintenance, and utilization of HERE’s map products.Your work will involve developing clear, deliberate, and consistent architectural designs, validated through prototypes and proof-of-concepts (PoCs). You will collaborate across technical and non-technical teams, ensuring that architectural decisions are well-documented and effectively communicated.This role requires a pragmatic, hands-on approach, a strong analytical mindset, and a solid theoretical foundation. A background in distributed systems, data modelling, and geospatial applications is essential for success. You will also:

• Design and deliver end-to-end system integration architectures, including data models, interoperability strategies, and content interfaces.
• Produce clear, formal documentation of architectural proposals and decisions.
• Collaborate with peers across architecture, engineering, product, sales, and customer teams to provide a comprehensive view of systems and solutions.
• Work closely with product engineering teams to incorporate external feedback into product planning and development.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship on mission-critical topics across organizational boundaries.
• Stay current with relevant technologies, tools, and industry trends, and continuously seek to expand your knowledge. 

You are a technical Leader with the following:

• Strong foundation in computer science and software engineering; a degree in Computer Science or a related field is highly preferred.
• 12+ years of experience working with complex software systems in various technical roles.
• Proven experience in technical architecture or engineering leadership positions.
• Proficient in systems programming with expertise in at least one JVM-based language (e.g., Java, Scala, Kotlin).
• Hands-on experience with big data and distributed processing technologies such as Spark, Trino, Ray, Parquet, Delta Lake, and Apache Iceberg.
• Familiarity with GIS technologies, location-based services, and digital mapping.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
