The RoleAspenTech’s Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) is a high growth area in our business that unlocks an electric distribution utility’s ability to monitor, manage, control, and optimize the grid.
As an Power Systems Model Engineer with demonstrable broad experience with developing, maintaining, and optimizing Esri Utility Network models focused on electric utilities you will have a unique opportunity to drive and own key activities in many exciting projects. Your deep GIS platforms, GIS database management and electric utility domain will position you for rapid growth and ability to share your experiences. In your role you will be responsible to generate working DMS data models at a rapid pace and hand them over to Power Model Engineers for further refinement. You will be highly engaged with our customers, leading and supporting project efforts. You will be also focused on understanding existing source database schemas and be in charge of the ETL process to the target data model, with the focus on efficiency and expediency of the data extraction. This position gives you broad exposure to the entire DGM ADMS ecosystem and you will be a primary point of contact for GIS side of the distribution electrical network modeling work with our customers throughout the project lifecycle. You will have the opportunity to work across functional teams including Power Model Engineers, Subject Matter Experts, Model Excellence Engineers, and other project engineers ensuring customer satisfaction and a velocity of project deliverables.

Your Impact

  • Participate in design, planning, and execution of ADMS projects.
  • Lead customer workshops focused on data modeling.
  • Support customer data quality assessments.
  • Extract data from various sources, including databases, web services, and APIs.
  • Transform data by cleaning, formatting, and validating it.
  • Develop and maintain data quality checks.
  • Document and improve ETL processes and procedures.
  • Identify and analyze database queries associated with ETL workflows.
  • Tune SQL queries and indexes to improve query execution times.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot ETL performance issues.
  • Interface with the utilities Geographic Information System (GIS) teams to extract, translate, and load the electrical network model to the Distribution Management System.
  • Configure and integrate software components to meet contract requirement specifications and test with customers.
  • Train customers on how to operate the systems being delivered.
  • Provide technical support to troubleshoot and resolve issues observed on live systems.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Utility Power Industry.
  • 3+ years of experience GIS maintenance, administration, and data entry experience with Esri, GE, Oracle, or Milsoft.
  • Operations or engineering experience at an electric utility is preferred.
  • Experience with ETL tools and methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of geospatial data concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (Python, Perl, etc.).
  • Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.).
  • Experience in the Utility Power Industry or equivalent.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex systems and software applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize work within tight timelines.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
