- Oversee and strategically guide the end-to-end payroll processing for all employees.
- Ensure precise and compliant payroll processing by validating payroll data and enforcing adherence to labor laws and company policies, including prevailing wage hours and certified reporting.
- Act as a senior point of escalation for complex payroll discrepancies, ensuring prompt resolution.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of payroll specialists, ensuring they are equipped to handle complex payroll tasks and meet organizational standards.
- Drive team performance through strategic performance evaluations and professional development plans aimed at cultivating a culture of excellence and proactive support.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Maintain expert knowledge of local, state, and federal payroll regulations and oversee the team's compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, and HR at a senior level to ensure payroll expenses are accurately accounted for and reported.
- Take ownership of compliance audits, including tax filings and regulatory documentation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Process Improvement:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating payroll procedures and making strategic recommendations to enhance efficiency.
- Implement advanced payroll technologies and systems, promoting innovations that streamline processes and mitigate risk.
Employee Support:
- Oversee employee payroll inquiries, ensuring your team responds efficiently and professionally while resolving complex issues that may require senior management intervention.
Vendor Management:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with third-party payroll providers, ensuring adherence to service level agreements and high standards of compliance.
Audits and Internal Controls:
- Oversee payroll audits, working closely with auditors to ensure all documentation and responses are timely and accurate.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance internal controls to secure payroll data integrity and accuracy.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 15+ years in payroll management, with substantial experience in leadership or strategic roles.
- Proven track record of implementing payroll best practices, ensuring compliance, and enhancing operational efficiency.
- 5+ years expertise in payroll software (Workday, SAP), with the ability to evaluate and recommend improvements.
- Strong analytical, strategic problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Advanced leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across senior management and cross-functional teams.
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and compliance, even under pressure and within tight deadlines.
