Join the team as a Senior Network Engineer and take ownership of designing, deploying, and maintaining high-performance network infrastructure across multiple enterprise sites. This role offers the opportunity to work hands-on with industry-leading Fortinet and Cisco technologies while shaping the security and scalability of business-critical systems.
You will collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to support and optimise global voice, cloud, and data centre initiatives. Your aim will be to ensure the availability, resilience, and performance of network operations while proactively identifying improvements in security and efficiency. Expect to lead architectural upgrades, contribute to strategic planning, and serve as a technical authority for complex network issues.
In this role, your expertise will directly impact operational success, enabling fast and secure communications that support advanced automation, robotics, and digital logistics platforms.
Job Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain LAN, WAN, and security infrastructure across enterprise environments
Configure and optimise Fortinet technologies, including FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, and VPN solutions
Administer and troubleshoot Cisco switching platforms (Catalyst/Nexus), ensuring high performance and availability
Lead network upgrades, migrations, and architecture enhancements
Enforce network security standards, policies, and best practices
Provide Level 3 support and resolve escalated network incidents
Conduct capacity planning, risk assessments, and performance monitoring
Collaborate with IT teams on cloud, voice, and data centre projects
Maintain technical documentation for compliance and operational use
Evaluate and recommend emerging network technologies
Qualifications Needed:
5–10 years of experience in enterprise network engineering, with at least 2–3 years in a senior-level role
Proven experience working in end-user environments.
Technical expertise in:
Fortinet stack: FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiAuthenticator
Cisco switching platforms: Catalyst, Nexus (VLANs, STP, QoS, EtherChannel)
Network routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, EIGRP
VPN configurations: IPSec, SSL VPN, site-to-site, remote access
Network segmentation, firewall policies, HA setups, and troubleshooting security events
Infrastructure and system administration practices
Familiarity with monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, syslog, SNMP)
Scripting/automation knowledge (Python, Ansible) is a plus
Strong documentation and communication skills
Fluent in English. Dutch language skills are a plus.
Certifications preferred: Fortinet NSE4/NSE5, Cisco CCNP/CCIE, ITIL Foundation

Location: Houten, Netherlands
Hybrid role: 3 days/week in the office
Some travel required
No on-call duty, but will follow FORTNA’s shift schedule.
