Job Summary
Responsible for tactical management of Information Technology activities as directed, with a primary focus on application software development and related security, data, and infrastructure matters. As a member of the IT management team, must assist in defining the IT strategic vision, aligned with company objectives, and represent the technological opportunities and concerns of AssuranceAmerica stakeholders. Must assist management team and operational leaders enabling them to make sound technological decisions. Responsible for collaborating with other departments and IT associates to plan, establish priorities, select new technologies, and implement major IT projects. Must be a strong, decisive leader able to quickly make a significant contribution to AssuranceAmerica. Assists in the establishment and direction of departmental standards and procedures; directs, assigns and coordinates the work of IT Staff, providing managerial and technical support and direction.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Ensure compliance with AssuranceAmerica policies and procedures, county, state and federal regulations and accreditation requirements.
- Direct the activities of assigned IT associates, assuring thorough project reviews and prompt service to the user community.
- Select, motivate and ensure the professional and personal development of assigned IT associates. Address performance issues on a timely basis and in an appropriate fashion, while maintaining the overall morale of the department.
- Plan and direct assigned functions associated with centralized computers and networks including computer operation, maintenance, upgrades, backup and recovery systems, operating systems, network cabling and routing, local area networks and external communication networks.
- Assist in the selection, ordering, installation and operation of software systems in support of AssuranceAmerica’s administrative operations.
- Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions for IT business challenges that impact the company’s health and profitability.
- Ensure a high level of communication and cooperation between IT department and all other departments with which it interacts.
- Serve as a member of the IT Leadership Team, including setting strategic and tactical direction and coordinating in the setting of goals and objectives.
- Lead cross-functional teams to achieve AssuranceAmerica business objectives. Assist in training of other personnel to enhance their technical capabilities.
- Establish and maintain process improvements and cost controls that support the goals of the AssuranceAmerica.
- Assist in the vendor selection and relationship maintenance to assist AssuranceAmerica with achieving goals and objectives.
Job Qualifications
Formal Education & Certification
Bachelors degree in Information Systems or related field, or experience commensurate with four-year college degree.
Knowledge & Experience
Ten to fifteen years of Information Technology management experience, preferably with insurance oriented organizations. Experience in building and managing teams of IT professionals, particularly software developers. Experience in developing, conducting and summarizing IT project reviews. Clear understanding of current technologies associated with the financial services and insurance industries.
Skills & Competencies
- Communication and analytical ability at a level to interact with associates, managers, agents and vendors.
- Strong working knowledge of (ex: virtualization, SAN Technologies, network planning and analysis, LAN/WAN, data communications, computer software and hardware and vendor evaluations).
- Demonstrated team building and coordination skills.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to make effective presentations to Senior Management.
- Must be able to meet deadlines and demonstrate strong time management/project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities for multiple managers or department staff and work independently.
- Must demonstrate ability to interact with a wide range of users having different levels of computer expertise.
- Must meet company guidelines for attendance and punctuality.
