Position Purpose:

  • This Senior Manager will lead a team across U.S. and Asia, managing import operations from origin to destination for assigned area of the organization.  The team scope includes coordinating transportation moves, third party service provider relationship management, supplier relationship management,  and contract negotiations. This position will also serve as a strategic advisor for expanding Home Depot’s import programs and services, with the goal of providing innovative international transportation solutions for Home Depot suppliers globally

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Develop New Supply Chain Processes: Leads and manages import operations from origin to destination for assigned area of the organization. Creates processes to ensure import product flows smoothly through the supply chain. Builds key metrics that define success for the team, third party providers, and suppliers, enabling effective day-to-day management and capacity planning. Uses tools and methodologies to analyze, predict, and improve transportation operations and efficiencies
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams, service providers, and stakeholders to achieve goals related to on-time delivery, cost efficiency, service quality, and compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Implement strategies to identify and onboard new suppliers to import supply chain. Develop and maintain supplier relationships and engage with account teams across multiple business lines. Understand strategic business goals and deliver strategies and solutions for achieving those goals and navigating roadblocks
  • Contract Management: Interpret, advise, and review contract terms and conditions. Support in implementing changes resulting from new or modified laws and regulations in accordance with FMC regulations. Conduct range of negotiations for the business area. Evaluate rates, service levels, transit times, and cost-benefit analyses to develop carrier flow plans and end-to-end product flow strategies
  • Financial Management: Understand business choices impact on financials and track financial performance. Develop business centric solutions that align to strategy and enable performance optimization. Communicate the business level impact to diverse audiences and ensure understanding. Participate in strategic planning and facilitate action on these plans for the assigned area. Able to establish business plan and proceed new business developments and projects

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • Typically reports to Supply Chain Management.
  • May have Direct and indirect reports
  • Typically requires highly developed interpersonal skills for dealing with sensitive or controversial situations.
  • Typically faces situations that have a variety of interpretations and require careful evaluation.
  • Typically considers new approaches within general policies and short-term goals when solving problems.
  • Typically, once given general assignments, determines priorities and defines what should be done and how to do it.

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Under regular pressure to meet deadlines, quotas and/or must frequently deal with difficult issues related to people or situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience processing U.S. freight shipments with an ocean carrier, ocean transport intermediary, or freight forwarder
  • Have knowledge and experience with the Shipping Act, United States import/export requirements, and other statutes that apply to international shipping 
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • In depth knowledge of global logistics services including Freight Forwarding, Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) industry, and destination management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working with senior level leadership
  • Strong critical thinking skills with ability to evaluate data and identify opportunity areas

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
