Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all .
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
SMAI is looking for a Sr. Manager, Data Science to lead a team of about 20 data scientists and data science managers. The team builds the analytics, machine learning and agentic-AI solutions that our yield, process integration, photo and TD engineers use every day, and directly supports the DRAM and HBM yield ramps with AI solutions and hands-on data science.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will set the technical direction, develop the managers and data scientists on the team, and be the person engineering leaders turn to when they need AI to move a yield or output number.
WHAT THE TEAM IS WORKING ON
  • Agentic AI for engineering diagnostics: LLM agents, MCPs and skills, built on our BKMs, that turn multi-tool engineering workflows into a single conversation.
  • Photolithography and process control: ML and analytics for overlay, R2R control, scanner defense line and photo max-out.
  • Yield ramp acceleration for new technologies: Data science embedded with TD and manufacturing to support yield ramps.
  • Image analytics and inline detection: Computer vision on inspection and SEM images to shift detection left.
  • Yield diagnostics and prediction: Tools that connect electrical fails to physical root causes.
  • Equipment and tool-matching analytics: Raising tool availability and reducing tool-to-tool variation.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Lead and grow the team. Set objectives, allocate resources across projects, and coach managers and individual contributors on their technical and career growth.
  • Own the technical direction. Define the data science roadmap and the team's technical standards, and keep the team at the leading edge of deep learning and generative AI.
  • Drive manufacturing impact. Turn yield-ramp and output problems into well-scoped data science projects with clear NPV, and drive them through to deployment.
  • Partner across the network. Work with PIE, PEE, photo SEAL and global sites on priorities and roadmaps, and present results to leadership.
  • Build talent. Hire, develop and retain strong data scientists, and build a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing and ownership of results.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years in data science and machine learning, with a track record of shipping ML or AI solutions into production that delivered measurable business impact.
  • Proven first-level people leadership: you have directly managed data scientists or engineers, including hiring, performance management and development.
  • Strong, up-to-date expertise in deep learning and generative AI, with solid foundations in statistics, data engineering and MLOps.
  • A strong desire to improve semiconductor manufacturing performance, and the curiosity to learn the process, equipment and technology behind the data.
  • The ability to align cross-functional teams behind a common goal.
  • Experience in yield enhancement, defect, probe, metrology, photolithography or process control is a plus.

Interested internal candidates are encouraged to apply through iJOP. For an informal conversation about the role, contact Klaus Thul.
