What we are looking for:
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious attorney with 8+ years of proven privacy / data protection law and management experience to join our dynamic legal team. The position will be the lead for our US privacy efforts, supporting strategic privacy goals and providing legal support on processes involving privacy and data protection across the organization. This is an opportunity to play a key role in ServiceNow's expanding legal Privacy Team and to work on challenging global privacy, data protection, security and AI issues in an exciting, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be located in the USA (on a flexible or remote basis), reporting to the Global Head of Privacy.
What you get to do in this role:
- Provide advice and guidance to various departments, including global marketing, procurement, product and AI, security, sales, human resources and compliance teams, in conjunction with the Legal Privacy, AI and Security teams.
- Manage the Privacy by Design process and related product focussed privacy Impact Assessments.
- Provide strategic advice to the business on privacy issues in AI and ML development and deployment.
- Support the business in handling data related security incidents.
- Advise on existing and emerging privacy laws at US State level and across AMS generally.
- Assist the commercial legal and procurement legal team by reviewing and negotiating privacy-related agreements, (e.g. DPAs, BAAs, SCCs, International Data Transfer Agreements), in support of global sales and procurement transactions.
- Assist in pursuing and maintaining privacy related Certifications and Standards.
- Assist in privacy related due diligence in M&A transactions, and subsequent technology integration.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of privacy related notices, policies, standards, guidelines and processes.
- Assist in Privacy Impact Assessments for new vendors, and marketing/HR related initiatives.
- Support privacy training for various groups within the company.
- Assist in the development of the company's privacy practices in light of changes in the law in all global territories, working in co-ordination with the Global Privacy team worldwide.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, we need someone who has:
- Current member in good standing of a U.S State Bar.
- Attorney with at least 8+ years of relevant privacy and data protection experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department of a technology company.
- Extensive knowledge of the interaction between privacy and technology related matters.
- Experience handling AI and general product related Privacy Impact Assessments and Privacy by Design.
- Proficiency in commercial contracts and excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Substantive and demonstrated expertise in privacy and data protection laws, especially existing and emerging US State privacy laws, US Federal, and GDPR. Experience in the evaluation of emerging legislation, and implementation of compliance requirements across an organization.
- Experience and working knowledge of global data transfer mechanisms, including Standard Contractual Clauses, and the EU-US Data protection Framework.
- Experience advising in relation to regulated markets with specific data localisation requirements is an advantage.
- Experience in assessing data related security incidents.
- A demonstrated practical, real world, collaborative approach to problem solving with the ability to make sound decisions and exercise good judgement.
- Ability to assess risk and provide concise business-focused legal advice.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster relationships and collaborate with internal clients.
- Experience managing other attorneys/professionals is a plus.

For positions in the Bay Area, we offer a base pay of $184,700 - $323,300, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location. We also offer health plans, including flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) Plan with company match, ESPP, matching donations, a flexible time away plan and family leave programs (subject to eligibility requirements). Compensation is based on the geographic location in which the role is located, and is subject to change based on work location.
