The Senior Manager – Core Purchasing is accountable for leading and developing the Core Purchasing organization responsible for platform and pre‑development purchasing activities. This role owns the strategy, governance, resource planning, and performance management required to ensure the team consistently delivers competitive, executable, and business‑winning sourcing solutions.The Senior Manager ensures that Core Purchasing capabilities support global customer quotation activities through disciplined RFQ execution, robust pricing strategies, accurate platform price libraries, and strong cross‑functional collaboration. This position plays a critical leadership role in aligning purchasing strategy with business objectives for cost, quality, delivery, risk, and long‑term supply chain competitiveness.People & Organizational Leadership- Lead, coach, and develop the Core Purchasing team, including Purchasing Leads and Buyers, to consistently meet quality, timing, and cost objectives
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations aligned with program milestones and business priorities
- Build bench strength through mentoring, succession planning, and capability development across purchasing disciplines
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous‑improvement‑focused team culture
- Own the end‑to‑end Core Purchasing process for platform and pre‑development programs, ensuring compliance with Global Purchasing Procedures
- Define and implement Core Purchasing strategies that support competitive customer quotations and long‑term sourcing robustness
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of RFQs, sourcing decisions, and quote submissions through effective team oversight
- Govern the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Platform Price Libraries and cost models
- Provide leadership oversight for customer RFQ quotation activities, ensuring:a. Competitive commercial assumptionsb. Robust sourcing strategiesc. Clear alignment between engineering, purchasing, and finance
- Review and approve sourcing strategies and quotation recommendations prior to executive decision forums
- Ensure appropriate escalation and resolution of risks, open issues, and gaps impacting quote quality or timing
- Partner closely with Engineering, Program Management, Finance, Strategic Purchasing, and Category Management to align early program assumptions
- Serve as the purchasing leadership interface in platform and pre‑development governance forums
- Ensure effective communication flow between Core Purchasing and downstream Program Buyers to enable informed decision‑making
- Oversee the development of strategic supplier engagement models in collaboration with commodity and category teams
- Ensure the organization leverages market intelligence, technology trends, and cost drivers in sourcing strategies
- Champion best‑in‑class cost optimization approaches while maintaining supplier sustainability, quality, and risk controls
- Establish KPIs for Core Purchasing performance (quality, timing, competitiveness, compliance)
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to tools, processes, cost models, and data integrity
- Standardize policies, reporting, and methodologies to drive consistency across regions and platforms
- Proven ability to lead and manage high‑performing purchasing teams in a global, matrixed environment
- Strong executive‑level communication skills, with the ability to influence cross‑functional and senior stakeholders
- Strategic mindset with strong commercial judgment and decision‑making capability
- Ability to balance competing priorities across multiple programs and timelines
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
What you'll bring
Education- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field
- Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred
- 8+ years of progressive experience in Automotive Purchasing or Supply Chain Management
- Demonstrated success leading teams responsible for RFQs, sourcing decisions, and BOM cost management
- Strong understanding of platform sourcing strategies and pre‑development cost modeling
- Experience working with enterprise systems (e.g., SAP, Enterprise One) and advanced Excel analysis
- Knowledge of global supply chains, trade policies, and regional sourcing considerations
- Excellent skills and experience in contract negotiation and price negotiation in a manufacturing environment
- Strategic thinker and implementer of effective tactical plans
- Practices and maintains integrity while following Magna Charter
- Creates a positive work environment by demonstrating and sharing functional/technical knowledge
