Position Summary

The Industrial Engineer plays a key role in driving operational excellence by improving productivity, optimizing manufacturing processes, and reducing operational costs. Through the application of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies, this role partners closely with operations, engineering, and leadership teams to enhance production efficiency, improve material flow, and eliminate waste across manufacturing operations.

 

The Industrial Engineer serves as a change agent within the organization, leading process improvement initiatives that support world-class performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.

 

What You'll Do

  • Drive Continuous Improvement
  • Lead Lean initiatives including Kaizen events, Value Stream Mapping, and waste elimination efforts
  • Implement and sustain Lean tools such as 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, SMED, Kanban, and Poka-Yoke
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Optimize Productivity and Labor Efficiency

  • Conduct time studies and develop labor standards to improve productivity
  • Analyze staffing requirements and support line balancing and capacity planning
  • Identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce downtime, and increase operational efficiency
  • Improve Manufacturing Processes
  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing processes, workflows, and equipment utilization
  • Optimize plant layout, production flow, and material movement throughout the facility
  • Develop and maintain Value Stream Maps to support improved production performance
  • Leverage Data to Drive Results
  • Monitor and analyze key operational metrics including Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost
  • Identify trends and opportunities related to scrap reduction, productivity improvements, and cost savings
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to support data-driven decision making.

Lead and Support Improvement Projects

  • Partner with operations leadership to implement process improvements and Lean initiatives
  • Manage improvement projects to ensure cost, schedule, and performance targets are achieved
  • Develop equipment specifications, cost analysis, and improvement proposals that enhance operational performance
  • Standardize and Sustain Best Practices
  • Develop and maintain Standard Work documentation and process controls
  • Ensure adherence to established procedures and continuous improvement standards
  • Train and support teams in Lean tools and operational best practices

 

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5--10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated success driving process improvements
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools
  • Experience in flat glass or glass manufacturing operations preferred

  • Productivity improvement (HPU/UPH)
  • Cost reduction initiatives
  • Lead time improvement
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Scrap reduction and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)

 

Work Environment

The atmosphere is that of a manufacturing plant. The position will primarily work where moving machinery produces noise. Employees must wear Personal Protective Equipment that is issued for that location. Temperature can range from extreme cold to extreme heat. Physical fitness to include movements, positioning, remaining stationary which include standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing/pulling, forward bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, postural balancing, manipulating, trunk rotation, handling, gripping, and talking (hearing). Frequent use of company communication devices are required such as a computer, phone, and other office electronics.
