Sr. Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

When you join Design Group as a Sr. Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our I&C Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.
What You’ll Do
You'll work individually and in teams to support capital projects and implement solutions for our clients. Together, you will help our clients make critical changes to improve their performance and realize their most important goals.
- Experience in executing I&C Design projects and willing to support the Semiconductor, Pharmaceutical, Mission Critical and other related industries with the highest level of quality, cost effectiveness, and a focus on safety.
- Work with other licensed engineers and experienced designers to develop controls architecture, instrumentation and valve specification, industrial networking, panel design, and automation system development.
- Excellent communication skills and be able to work with other engineering disciplines, sometimes across multiple offices.
- Instrumentation and control system engineering design for industrial, manufacturing, and utilities projects.
- Specifications including calculations for flow meters, analyzers, transmitters, and other field instruments;
- Must understanding for area classification and mitigation strategies.
- Perform control system studies including troubleshooting existing control systems, new system conceptual design and control system retrofits.
- Develop controls/instrumentation engineering documentation including detailed instrument specifications and selection, logic diagrams, loop sheets, instrument lists, I/O lists, and instrumentation plan drawings.
- Supervise and coordinating instrumentation/controls engineering/design efforts on multi-discipline engineering projects.
- Be able to provide occasional Field support including on-site design or technical queries.
- Provide training and mentoring of junior level instrumentation/controls engineers and designers.
- Familiarity with industrial codes and standards including:
- ISA
- NFPA
- NEC
- UL508A
- IEEE
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and electrical drawings.
- Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the engineering design of industrial control systems including instrumentation, control logic, PLC, SCADA and DCS based control systems, and control systems documentation.
- Experience in SPI / InTools in preferred (Not required).
- Demonstrated experience in cost estimating (engineering and capital costs), proposal development, marketing, and business development efforts for I&C projects is preferred.
- Experience supervising engineers, designers, and drafters as part of a control system design team.
- Safety Integrated System experience is preferred. Certificate 2 ISA/IEC 61511 SIL Specialist is a preferred (Not required).
- Willing and able to travel as necessary for project requirements to include but not be limited to: project installation and start-up activities, client meetings, company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, or conventions, etc.
- 4-year BS Engineering degree from an ABET school required.

The approximate pay range for this position is $120,000-$160,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.
