Position Overview:
The Fit Specialist / Pattern Maker – Woven Apparel is responsible for translating design intent into initial patterns that uphold the Canada Goose’s luxury creative direction for woven tops and bottoms. This role is pivotal in the early stages of product development, collaborating closely with Design and Product Development teams to deliver precise, high-quality patterns to sample rooms and ateliers. The Fit Specialist is accountable for fit accuracy, pattern integrity, and ensuring a luxury fit according to the Global Fit Strategy across woven garments—taking into consideration the unique behaviors of woven fabrics and the impact of washes and finishes on fit.
This role will be mainly working out of our 100 Queens Quay East office.
About The Role:
First Pattern Creation & Category Expertise
- Own the development of first patterns specifically for woven apparel (bottoms and tops)
- Translate complex design sketches and creative vision into initial patterns ready for prototyping, carefully accounting for fabric characteristics (such as weight, weave, stretch, and hand) and wash.
- Anticipate fabric behavior including shrinkage, bias stretch, and stiffness, adjusting patterns to maintain luxury fit standards and precise garment construction.
- Ensure patterns maintain consistent sizing and fit despite the effects of fabric finishes and washes such as enzyme treatments, stone washing, or resin coatings etc.
- Collaborate with Director of Global Fit in building fit blocks and block library for jersey products.
Collaborative Product Creation
- Participate in real-time, in-person concept sessions with Design, Product Development, and Global Fit teams to initiate new woven apparel styles.
- Work concurrently with Product Development as they build technical packs while you develop corresponding patterns that reflect fabric-specific needs and finishing impacts.
- Facilitate early vendor or atelier hand-offs to guarantee alignment and completeness for prototype creation.
Fit Reviews & Iteration
- Attend fittings on live models to evaluate fit, proportion, mobility, and construction integrity for woven tops and bottoms, closely observing how fabric behavior influences fit and comfort.
- Deliver detailed, actionable feedback on pattern revisions, factoring in how washes and finishes may alter fabric dimensions and garment silhouette post-production.
- Collaborate with sample makers and external vendors to ensure craftsmanship, precision, and quality standards are met, with special attention to fabric-handling best practices.
Consistency, Innovation & Process
- Uphold fit consistency and grading accuracy following established Global Fit libraries, blocks, and POMs tailored to woven apparel.
- Support seasonal fit reviews and offer category-specific insights that reflect fabric and finish influences on fit and garment performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in fit strategy, pattern libraries, and workflow optimization, including adoption of 3D fitting tools such as CLO where applicable.
About You:
Experience & Education:
- 5+ years of pattern making experience focused on woven apparel (tops and bottoms) within luxury or technical apparel brands.
- Proven success collaborating with Creative Directors and Designers to convert conceptual designs into precise patterns that account for fabric and finish specifics.
- Degree or certificate in Fashion Design, Pattern Making, Technical Design, or related discipline.
- Proficient in Gerber Accumark or equivalent CAD software; experience with 3D platforms like CLO is a plus.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of woven fabric behavior, including fiber content, weave types, weight, stretch/recovery, and how these impact drape and fit.
- Skilled in pattern development and grading that incorporates allowances and shaping to compensate for shrinkage, bias stretch, stiffness, and distortion due to fabric finishes or washes.
- Experienced with finishes and treatments such as enzyme washing, stone washing, resin coatings, and softening processes, understanding their effects on fabric hand, dimensional stability, and long-term fit.
- Ability to maintain fit consistency and design integrity across complex woven styles and multi-piece garments, factoring in fabric-specific challenges.
- Familiarity with delicate and technical woven fabrics (silks, linens, coated cottons, performance textiles) requiring specialized patterning approaches.
Communication & Collaboration:
- Effective communicator with ability to work cross-functionally across creative and technical teams.
- Clear and precise in providing fit feedback, pattern corrections, and vendor instructions, with an understanding of fabric and finish considerations in these discussions.
- Confident leading discussions with sample rooms and problem-solving fit or construction issues related to fabric behavior.
Attributes:
- Passionate about delivering luxury fit and superior customer experience, with deep respect for fabric integrity and craftsmanship.
- Detail-oriented with a high standard of craftsmanship and pride in pattern accuracy, especially related to fabric-specific adjustments.
- Proactive, curious, and adaptive—thrives on technical challenges and collaborative problem-solving involving fabric and fit complexities.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and creative cycles.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel up to 30% for vendor fittings and sample room support.
- Availability for in-person fit sessions and cross-functional meetings in line with seasonal product calendars.
