Job Description

Key Activities:

RFQ Handling (Pre-order Phase):

  • Interpret and analyze project specifications not limited to Mechanical design, Instruments, site conditions, Pressure Vessels/Heat exchangers, Regulatory requirements, manufacturing specifications like Welding, PMI, painting, Inspection/Quality etc
  • Review, prepare and record extract of customer / project specifications
  • Application engineering (Product selection and Sizing)
  • Maintain activity and utilization Log / Tracker
  • Driving standardization and cost database
  • Validating and maintaining records of Application inputs

 Technical alignment with Vendors & Cost Estimation:

  • Review component datasheets prepared by other engineering teams.
  • Review Project AVL or JC STD AVL and float RFQs to vendors.
  • Review quotations received from vendors and align technically as per specification requirements.
  • Negotiate with vendors for best cost and delivery.
  • Prepare bid analysis report (Cost and delivery comparison along with vendors CED) and Technical alignment book and share the same with stakeholders including Engineering, Operations, Supply chain, PDO teams etc.
  • Managing vendor and quotation database for future references.
  • Review scope of supply and specifications prepared by other engineering teams.
  • Prepare cost estimation using costing tool, database and vendor quotes.
  • Prepare lead time sheets considering the current lead times.
  • Improvising the existing costing tools.

Post-Order phase

  • Review purchase order vs. quote and prepare order handover
  • Handover techno-commercially aligned project scope & final supporting documents to post order (Engineering, Project execution etc.)
  • Participate in Project handover meetings to facilitate clear and clean order handover to execution Teams
  • Providing Support on Techno commercial clarifications to execution teams

Senior Engineer - responsibilities and expectations include:

  • Developing, facilitate and Mentor less experienced engineers
  • Support System Improvement Strategy or Strategic initiatives in terms of Global Projects requirements/ customer expectations
  • Preparation of executive report to communicate team’s efficiency and effectiveness
  • Create/update processes, procedures, documentation and knowledge bank
  • Support developing product literature and training materials.
  • To cover for Senior Supervisor in his/her absence

  • Good analytical skills and excellent understanding of process engineering needs in design & operations, key business drivers and industry practices.
  • Should have good written and spoken skills in English and Dedicated team player with well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to make quick decisions while evaluating risk to John Crane and the customer
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven work environment, attention to detail, and multitasking are essential.
  • Support safe workplace cultures and compliance with Smiths EH&S

Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline (Mechanical / Chemical/Instrumentation) with 8 + years’ experience in technology development, engineering, or similar functions. 
  • Thorough knowledge in interpretation of customer and project specification (OEM, EPC and End user)
  • Strong application and detailed engineering knowledge of mechanical seal Support Systems (API –Piping Plans) or similar fluid control systems products (like Lube oil Consoles or Oil Lubricating Systems or Pre-jacking systems, HP-LP systems or Filtration units etc,) for applications in Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, Power, Steel, Chemical industries
  • Experience in sourcing, vendor quote alignment (Techno-commercial) are preferred
  • Experience in piping equipment fabrication supervision or quality management will be an added advantage
  • Hands on experience in selection of Pressure, Level & Temperature instruments and preparation of Instrument specifications are preferred
  • Working knowledge with   API 682, API 610, API 614, ASME / ANSI Piping and pressure vessels standards are preferable.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Enclosures for Hazardous Area Classification and Mechanical Protection requirements are preferred
  • Work experience in Pumps and Compressors skids engineering will be an added advantage
  • Functional experience in basic CAD tool (like Solid Edge) is expected
