The Senior AI Engineer - ECG is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for architecting, developing, validating, and optimizing advanced AI ECG-based algorithms for Masimo’s non-invasive medical device platforms.

This role provides technical leadership in the design and deployment of robust, real-time cardiac monitoring algorithms across the full product lifecycle — from early feasibility and system architecture through embedded implementation, verification, regulatory submission, and post-market optimization. This role drives innovation in ECG-based measurement, including heart rate, rhythm analysis, and advanced cardiac insights, translating complex physiological signals into clinically actionable outputs.

Please note this is an onsite position at our Irvine, CA. office. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop AI and ML models to solve complex problems in ECG
  • Develop new advanced algorithms using, machine learning techniques, deep learning models, digital signal processing techniques, optimization and numerical modeling in MATLAB, Python or similar software
  • Develop and optimize algorithms for heart rate detection, arrhythmia identification, and ECG morphology analysis
  • Design, train and evaluate machine learning models using large datasets in the cloud
  • Prototype new ideas/technologies to create proof of concept and demos
  • Contribute to the organization’s strong drive to be on the cutting edge of technology through the generation of patentable ideas
  • Work with cross-functional teams in the R&D group, including hardware and software engineers
  • Effectively communicate with engineering and marketing teams
  • Design clinical studies to collect physiological data from human subjects, perform data collection and analysis of physiological data
  • Carry out statistical analysis of clinical data
  • Deliver high quality software design, documentation and implementation
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Deep expertise in ECG signal processing, digital signal processing, and statistical modeling 
  • Proven experience developing ECG algorithms, including waveform detection and cardiac feature extraction 
  • At least 3+ years of experience in AI/ML, statistical signal processing, and deep learning techniques, optimization methods, and numerical modeling within the medical device industry 
  • Algorithm development experience using machine learning techniques such as regression, classification, clustering, etc., and deep learning techniques using neural networks, CNN, RNN, etc.
  • Expertise in data analysis and data mining
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and modern frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensor flow, Keras, scikit-learn, etc.
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB/Python/C/C++ and exposure to software engineering methods
  • Familiarity with DSP architecture and embedded systems
  • Exposure to DSP Programming
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with arrhythmia detection/classification algorithms or cardiac monitoring systems 
  • Knowledge of cardiac physiology and electrophysiology principles 
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques to ECG or time-series physiological data 
  • Familiarity with wearable or ambulatory ECG systems and associated signal challenges 
  • Experience supporting regulatory submissions (e.g., FDA 510(k), CE Mark) 
  • Prior contributions to patents, publications, or clinically validated products

M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field required

Compensation + Benefits: The anticipated range for this position is $140,000 - $170,000Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience. This position also qualifies for up to 10% annual bonus based on Company, department, and individual performance.
