Sr Engineer, Advanced Controls Applications

POSITION PURPOSE The Global Advanced Applications team is BAC’s technical authority for complex, non-standard customer applications, delivering engineering solutions that enable BAC to win in core markets and priority growth segments, including data centers and other mission-critical applications. Headquartered in Jessup, MD, the team provides product and site-level expertise across thermal, controls, structural, sound, and related engineering domains in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

The Senior Engineer, Advanced Controls Applications, serves as an experienced technical contributor responsible for developing and executing controls solutions for complex customer applications. The position independently leads technical portions of projects, develops control strategies and supporting documentation, and collaborates with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver robust, integrated solutions that are aligned with BAC’s system architecture and engineering standards. This role is responsible for planning and executing on multiple concurrent assignments, ensuring technical quality, schedule adherence, and successful completion of project objectives while supporting customer-facing discussions and internal technical decision-making.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Deliver controls solutions for complex, non-standard applications (including Factory Witness Test support), for high-value opportunities in core markets and growth segments (e.g. data centers).

• Analyze technical data and make engineering decisions consistent with established standards, practices, and project objectives.
• Prepare technical specifications, reports, presentations, and customer-facing documentation.
• Coordinate with thermal, mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and product engineering teams to ensure successful system integration.
• Engage with vendors and manufacturing facilities to support project execution and resolve technical issues.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Support continuous improvement efforts through development of reusable logic, engineering tools, templates, and best practices.
• Escalate novel, high-risk, or unprecedented technical challenges to the Principal Engineer while independently resolving routine and moderately complex issues.
• Engage directly with customers and internal stakeholders to align on requirements, shape solution approaches, and enable confident technical commitments.
• Provide prompt, time-sensitive responses or solutions to customers and internal stakeholders in support of sales inquiries, requests for information (RFI), and requests for quotes (RFQ).

• Represent BAC in technical discussions with customers, partners, and industry organizations.

NATURE AND SCOPE The Senior Engineer, Advanced Controls Applications reports to the Principal Engineer, Advanced Applications and is responsible for technical execution of complex controls assignments in support of non-standard customer applications and strategic growth opportunities. The role serves as a senior technical contributor, independently developing and implementing controls solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful system integration and project execution.

This position requires balancing multiple concurrent assignments, applying advanced engineering judgment to complex technical challenges, and delivering high-quality solutions within established scope, schedule, and performance objectives. The Senior Engineer may occasionally work with customers, vendors, manufacturing facilities, and internal stakeholders to quickly resolve technical issues, and support critical business opportunities.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Controls, Mechatronics, or related Engineering field required; advanced degree preferred.

• ~ 8+ years of relevant, progressively responsible experience in industrial controls, automation, HVAC controls, or related engineering disciplines.

• Proven experience solving complex engineering problems and leading technical efforts on high-impact applications.

• Experience with PLC-based control systems, industrial communication networks, and system integration.
• Prior experience in applications engineering and/or customer-facing roles.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Extensive understanding of HVAC or industrial cooling systems and controls architecture.

• Ability to interpret and apply relevant industry standards, certification requirements, and codes (e.g. NEC, UL, CE…).

• Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple technical assignments and priorities.
• Ability to participate in customer-facing technical discussions, clearly conveying complex topics and building confidence in solutions.
• Ability to apply engineering principles and sound judgment to complex technical challenges.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Familiarity with digital twins, simulation, or model-based controls approaches.

• Experience developing reusable control logic, templates, or tools.

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $82,400 - $141,200
