About the RoleThe Sr. Director - Product Management (Discover) is a strategic leader responsible for shaping how customers explore and find products through intuitive, AI-enhanced navigation, search, and personalization that seamlessly connect digital and in-store discovery experiences. This leader drives innovation and execution across omnichannel touch points, owning sub-areas in Wayfinding and Search, while ensuring experiences are intelligent, adaptive, and context aware.
The role leverages Generative AI and data intelligence to dynamically refine search relevance, inspire product discovery, and craft shopping journeys that increase engagement and conversion. By embedding predictive and generative capabilities across discovery flows, this leader ensures that customers encounter the right content, products, and recommendations at the right time — tailored to their unique context and preferences.
Additionally, this role advances the App strategy by using Generative AI to make the app a smart discovery hub — guiding both customers and associates through conversational search, adaptive recommendations, and personalized content experiences that bridge store and online interactions. The ideal candidate combines deep product management expertise with visionary leadership in AI-driven experience design, working across UX, Engineering, Ecommerce, Marketing, and Merchandising to deliver compelling, data-driven discovery experiences that enhance satisfaction and business growth. What You'll Do
  • Wayfinding: Own the roadmap for navigation (Site, App, Marketplace, Cross-Brand bar), Product Listing Page (PLP)/Sorts, curated & algorithmic shops, facets/filters, homepage & landing pages, store digital signage, non-commerce & non-campaign pages, and VI Banners/ISMs; collaborate with Merchandising and Ecommerce teams to ensure intuitive, real-time wayfinding that bridges online and physical retail, aligning with Content Supply Chain, Innovation, and other cross-functional Customer Journey Product Teams to drive multi-year roadmaps.

  • Search: Manage the development of on-site search, app search, in-store search (Store Mode Scanning), marketplace search, endless aisle (Store Mode), shop by store, RFID, and Search/Generative Engine Optimization (SEO/GEO); leverage Generative AI and data intelligence to deliver conversational and context-aware discovery, improving search relevance, inspiration, and conversion.

  • App Experience Leadership: Advance the App as a core discovery hub by integrating AI-powered navigation, conversational search, adaptive recommendations, and personalized content for both customers and store associates; drive mobile-led discovery experiences that seamlessly integrate with in-store technology.

  • Foster Cross-Functional Influence and Team Development: Build and lead a high-performing team of up to 8-12, demonstrating Influence & Leadership by collaborating with stakeholders to resolve dependencies, escalate risks, and align on omnichannel priorities; mentor reports to exhibit behaviors at their levels, focusing on observable outcomes like adoption metrics and continuous feedback loops.

  • Drive Data-Driven Outcomes and Innovation: Analyze performance against KPIs to iterate on features, ensuring omnichannel coherence (i.e., in-store search syncing with digital navigation); champion experimentation, A/B testing, and AI-driven experimentation to innovate while optimizing business results.

Who You Are
  • 10+ years of product management experience in omnichannel retail or e-commerce, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing complex product portfolios.

  • Proven track record of leading teams to deliver customer-facing features in fast-paced environments, with deep expertise in retail discovery, search optimization, personalization, and app experience.

  • Experience applying Generative AI and data intelligence in product discovery, personalization, or search relevance contexts.

  • Strong technical acumen in platforms like search engines, recommendation systems, and mobile app frameworks, coupled with financial literacy to tie features to revenue impact.

  • Excellent influence and communication skills to partner across functions, with a commitment to developing talent through competency-based coaching.

Preferred

  • Experience with agile methodologies and tools like Jira, Confluence, and Jira Plan for roadmapping in omnichannel settings.

  • Familiarity with retail-specific technologies (i.e., RFID, SEO/GEO, AI discovery platforms) and analytics tools (i.e., Adobe Customer Journey Analytics, Fullstory, etc.) for KPI tracking.

  • Proven experience leading mobile app strategy, including app discovery, navigation, and AI-driven personalization.

  • Passion for customer-centric innovation, with a history of driving measurable improvements in metrics like search conversion, app engagement, or homepage interaction.

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative culture, aligning with our framework's guiding principles of high-performing, observable behaviors that build upon each other.

  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing complex product portfolios
  • Expertise in retail discovery, search optimization, personalization, and app experience

What We Do

In 1969, Don and Doris Fisher opened the first Gap store on Ocean Avenue in San Francisco. They wanted to make it easier to find a great pair of jeans, and they did. Their denim and records store was a hit, and it grew to become one of the world’s most iconic brands. Today we’re represented in more than 1400 stores in over 40 countries, and online. We have headquarters in New York, London, Shanghai, Tokyo, and, of course, San Francisco. Our unique aesthetic is optimistic cool, elevated American style. Our clothes are crafted with care, with focused attention to thoughtful design. We believe in staying true to our heritage while creating what’s next. Don and Doris Fisher always wanted to “do more than sell clothes.” They wanted to support the people who ran their company, to be active in their communities, and to have a positive impact on the world. Their vision helped transform retail, and we’re still following their lead. We stand for freedom and possibility for all; we champion diverse ideas that transcend generations, geographies and genders.
