Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone Orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes, and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

Position Overview

Sr. Director, Procurement Strategy, Digital and Process, is accountable for enterprise ownership of the Procurement Strategic Framework, encompassing strategy, process architecture, digital enablement, governance, and continuous improvement across the global Source‑to‑Pay ecosystem.

This role shapes and delivers world‑class procurement capabilities across Supplier & Category Excellence; Technology, Data & Actionable Insights; Organizational Agility, while owning the global digital procurement strategy and leading transformational programs that drive value creation, efficiency, compliance, and exceptional user experience at scale.

This role will operate as a strategic leader, transformation executive, and enterprise integrator, enabling standardized yet flexible processes, advancing data‑driven decision‑making, and building a high‑performing, innovative procurement organization.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Procurement & Digital Strategy

  • Lead the global procurement digital strategy, global process architecture, enterprise procurement policies, third‑party risk management practices, and core functional capabilities.

  • Own and evolve the Procurement Strategic Framework, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, business priorities, and long‑term value creation goals.

Shape end‑to‑end Global Process Ownership for:

  • Source‑to‑Contract (S2C)

  • Payments & Experience (PEX)

  • Spend Management Strategy, including strategy definition, process architecture, change management, capability design, and global deployment.

Technology, Investment & Transformation Leadership

  • Own and manage the procurement technology and process budget, ensuring disciplined investment decisions and measurable return on investment.

  • Enable the procurement function through best‑in‑class digital capabilities that simplify, automate, and standardize processes while delivering traceable value creation via digital platforms, data science, analytics, and reporting.

  • Lead enterprise‑level transformation programs that deliver superior user experience, operational excellence, and sustained value.

  • Provide leadership and accountability for major or critical process audit findings, ensuring timely remediation and systemic risk mitigation.

Cash Flow & Value Enablement:

  • Ensure procurement processes directly support enterprise cash flow, working capital optimization, and financial stewardship.

Process Implementation & Optimization:

Global Deployment & Adoption:

  • Drive global deployment and adoption of end‑to‑end procurement processes, balancing enterprise standardization with required regional and local customization.

  • Ensure consistent execution of process standards across geographies, business units, and operating models.

Digital & Process Transformation:

Improve stakeholder and user experience through digital and process transformation, including leadership of key initiatives such as:

  • Accounts Payable Transformation, Third‑Party Risk Management, Automated contracting and autonomous sourcing

  • Data management, analytics, and insights

  • Intelligent stack optimization

  • Gen AI‑enabled procurement capabilities

Performance, Analytics & Value Tracking:

Lead the optimization and transformation of end‑to‑end procurement processes across technology, skills, and operating performance.

Establish and manage process performance data, KPIs, and value tracking mechanisms across the global Source‑to‑Pay continuum, including:

  • Target setting and performance management

  • Cycle time and efficiency improvements

  • Financial performance and value realization

  • Maximization of technology and transformation investments

  • Partner with performance management teams to develop and operationalize robust reporting and analytics that measure effectiveness, efficiency, and business impact.

Capability Enablement & Training:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, ongoing training strategy covering skills, processes, systems, and policies.

  • Collaborate closely with business, corporate, and sector procurement teams to embed capabilities, drive adoption, and sustain performance improvements.

Benchmarking & Thought Leadership:

  • Leverage external benchmarking, market intelligence, and leading practices to inform procurement strategy, digital transformation roadmaps, and process architecture decisions.

  • Continuously bring outside‑in perspectives to improve competitiveness and future readiness.

  •  Collaborate with cross‑functional partners (Finance, IT, Legal, Risk, Audit, Operations) to ensure alignment and implementation of policy, process, and system changes.

Organizational Strategy, Engagement & Talent Development:

  • Create and sustain a high‑performance, innovative, and inclusive culture across the global procurement organization.

  • Foster engagement, ownership, and accountability while developing next‑generation procurement capabilities and digital fluency.

Qualifications & Education:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent preferred. Bachelor’s degree required (Technical degree preferred)

  • 12+ years Comprehensive knowledge of and extensive experience with procurement business processes, practices and technology, including cross-functional and cross-geographic, team-based global category management, global technology deployment.

  • Extensive experience in global procurement, process ownership, or enterprise transformation roles within complex, multinational organizations.

  • Demonstrated success delivering large‑scale process, technology, and capability transformations with measurable value outcomes.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate enterprise strategy into actionable procurement initiatives.

  • Experience managing large-scale spend and third-party payments across diverse categories.

  • Exceptional leadership, talent development, and organizational building skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of procurement technologies, process optimization, and payment processing.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence executive stakeholders.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$178,000.00 - $307,050.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation –120 hours – Standard for D2
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year
Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
