Job Summary:

The Sr Designer, Printed Wiring Board (PWB) is responsible for designing, developing, and documenting complex printed wiring board layouts supporting Masimo's medical device technologies. This role partners cross-functionally with Engineering teams to deliver high-performance, manufacturable electronic hardware from concept through production while serving as a technical resource for PCB design standards and best practices.

Please note this is an onsite position at our Irvine, CA office. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop complex multilayer printed wiring board layouts supporting new product development and sustaining engineering. 
  • Optimize board designs for electrical performance, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and product quality. 
  • Partner with Engineering teams throughout design, validation, and production. 
  • Develop and maintain PCB design documentation, engineering releases, and manufacturing deliverables. 
  • Support prototype builds, design verification, engineering changes, and production transfers. 
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Test (DFT), and applicable IPC standards throughout product development. 
  • Drive continuous improvement through design reviews, root cause investigations, CAD standards, and supplier collaboration. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ yrs of printed wiring board (PCB/PWB) design experience in a product development environment
  • Proficiency with PCB CAD tools (e.g., PADS, Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or equivalent)
  • Experience designing multilayer, high-density, and mixed-signal circuit boards 
  • Knowledge of IPC standards, PCB manufacturing processes, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) 
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in medical devices or other regulated industries

  • Experience with rigid-flex PCB design, HDI technologies, and high-speed digital layouts

  • Familiarity with signal integrity, power integrity, EMC/EMI, and mechanical integration 

  • Experience with database maintenance is a plus

  • Experience mentoring technical staff and supporting engineering process improvements


Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Language Requirements: 

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, schematics, and written instructions
  • Ability to clearly document technical findings and communicate with cross-functional team members

Compensation + Benefits:  The anticipated range for this position is $93,000 - $125,000. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience. This position also qualifies for up to 10% annual bonus based on Company, department, and individual performance. Physical requirements/Work Environment: 

This position primarily works in a laboratory environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking. Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required. May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities.
