Maxar is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer for our offices in Palo Alto, CA. The role may also be performed remotely within the U.S. In this role, you will be responsible for protecting the organization's digital assets by identifying vulnerabilities, designing and implementing security solutions, and developing and maintaining security policies and standards across all security domains. This role requires broad technical expertise-including secure networking, cloud, and identity management-as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and manage security technologies (e.g., firewalls, SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, cloud security tools, encryption, IAM).
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce security policies, procedures, and standards across all security domains in alignment with industry frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS benchmarks).
  • Design and support identity and access management (IAM) solutions, including role-based access controls (RBAC), privileged access management (PAM), and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • Administer and monitor IAM systems, perform regular reviews of access controls, and ensure integration with existing systems.
  • Design, implement, and manage secure cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Architect, implement, and maintain secure networking solutions, including segmentation, VPNs, network access controls, and secure communication protocols.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and support remediation efforts across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and security trends; recommend and implement improvements based on risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with IT, compliance, and business stakeholders to align security strategies with organizational goals.
  • Maintain documentation for security processes, policies, and standards to support compliance and audit readiness.
  • Manage relationships with external security partners (e.g., SOC providers, auditors) and oversee compliance obligations.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • 8 years of experience in cybersecurity roles, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of secure networking, including architecture, TCP/IP, DNS, segmentation, firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, network access controls, and secure communication protocols.
  • Advanced proficiency in operating systems administration and security (Windows, Linux, Unix).
  • Experience with cloud security principles and tools (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash, Java, SQL, JavaScript) for automation and tool development.
  • Experience with IAM tools and technologies, authentication protocols (e.g., OAuth, SAML), and access management best practices.
  • Expertise in encryption and cryptography (PKI, TLS/SSL, symmetric/asymmetric encryption, digital signatures).
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, and CIS benchmarks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessment and troubleshooting complex security issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain security concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.
• The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $119,000.00 - $199,000.00 annually.
• The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $131,000.00 - $219,000.00 annually.
• The base pay for this position within California is: $137,000.00 - $229,000.00 annually.
For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
