Job Description
This role applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the principles of revenue recognition and cost to conduct studies which provide detailed project information not supplied by general accounting systems. This role collects then studies data to determine costs of business activity, (such as raw material purchases), inventory and labor expense as well as assisting in the recording of revenue per various recognition methods. Specialist on complex matters. Has authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction and within the scope of their responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Apply declarative revenue recognition rules on a program-by-program basis for application to forecasted/actual performance.
- Study and collect data to determine costs of business activity (such as raw material purchases), inventory and labor.
- Drive process improvements and proactively recommend changes to continuously improve revenue accounting practices.
- Maintain, update, and verify project schedules for accurate revenue and cost recording.
- Accurately track project completion and related inventory
- Work with cross functional staffs to research and analyze complex revenue recognition issues. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems.
- Perform month-end account reconciliations.
- Provide technical accounting support to corporate accounting groups and the business units.
- Ad hoc financial reporting
May assume a team lead role for the workgroup, supervise and guide lower-level staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 7 or more years of applied accounting experience
- Due to the nature of the work performed, candidates MUST BE a US Citizen or Resident Alien.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of defense industry or electronics manufacturing
- Historical ASC606 Revenue Recognition and/or Cost experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
- Advanced knowledge and application of GAAP
- Advanced experience with office software tools including Microsoft Excel
- Self-starter & innovator
- Able to focus on program details, while achieving top level process improvement objectives
- Works well individually and as part of a team
- Very organized with extraordinary attention to details
- Ability to get results despite obstacles
- Desire to work many different tasks in order to learn the organization from the inside
- Ability to work inside a diverse organization
- Ability to lead and guide lower level staff
