We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Controls and Automation Engineer to design, develop, and implement advanced control systems and automation solutions for our manufacturing processes. Job Responsibilities**
* Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex control systems, including PLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens, etc.), HMI/SCADA development, and industrial networking.
* Develop and execute automation strategies to enhance manufacturing processes, reduce cycle times, and minimize operational costs.
* Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues related to control systems, robotic cells, and automated machinery on the production floor.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., manufacturing, maintenance, quality, IT) to define project requirements, integrate new technologies, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Oversee the specification, procurement, and installation of new automation equipment and control components.
* Develop and maintain detailed documentation for control systems, including electrical schematics, PLC programs, HMI screens, and operational manuals.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
* Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies in all automation projects.
* Participate in root cause analysis for production downtime and implement preventative measures.
* Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in industrial automation and controls.
Required Skills and Education
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
* Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in industrial controls and automation engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably in automotive or heavy industry.
* Expert-level proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal) and HMI/SCADA development (e.g., Ignition, FactoryTalk View).
* Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP).
* Demonstrated experience with robotic systems integration (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, Kuka) and vision systems.
* Proficiency in electrical design and schematic interpretation (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
* Experience with servo and motion control systems.
* Proven ability to lead projects from concept through commissioning and support.
* Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Familiarity with industry safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 79).
