Job Description Summary:
The Advice and Counsel Center serves two primary purposes: (1) Conducting a variety of organizational investigations, including, but not limited to – allegations of discrimination (race, age, religion, gender, national origin, ethnicity, disability, pregnancy, etc.); harassment; retaliation; hostile work environment; workplace violence; bullying; favoritism; HIPAA violations; drug diversions; fitness for duty; various ethical violations; employee misconduct; performance deficiencies; FMLA violations; FLSA violations; social media issues; etc.); and (2) Advising and coaching leaders on engaging in the corrective action process for performance and behavior-related issues for all levels of employees (including management). The Advice and Counsel Center also advises leaders on potential issues related to proposed workforce realignments.
Senior Consultants within the Advice and Counsel Center routinely collaborate with several internal business entities, including: Legal, Ethics and Compliance, Protective Services, Risk Management, Senior Leadership, the Advocacy Center, HR Business Partners, and other business groups in resolving various issues. They also regularly train and coach leaders on a variety of ACC-related issues.
Senior Consultants Must Have:
Expansive employee and labor relations knowledge related to the laws, rules, policies, and regulations governing the same
Ability to interpret and apply applicable laws, rules, policies, and regulations to the issues at hand and effectively advise leaders on the same
Experience conducting effective workplace investigations
Ability to effectively and professionally communicate – both verbally and in writing
Ability to quickly and effectively establish rapport with all levels of leadership
Excellent judgment, critical thinking skills, and analytical ability
Ability to balance working both autonomously day-to-day, and also collaboratively within a team environment and with other departments overall
Ability to think creatively and proactively in identifying potential issues and resolving known issues
Ability to navigate complex cases and high case volume
Desire to continuously learn and stay up-to-date on employee related trends, issues and concerns
Ability to discern issues that need to be escalated
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (Required)
- Approximately five years of HR or related experience required
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
- Advanced degree preferred (ex.: Masters of Human Resource Management (MRHM); Masters of Business Administration (MBA); Juris Doctorate (JD); Masters of Healthcare Administration (MHA); etc.)
- Management experience a plus
- Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certification preferred
MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Advising and counseling leaders on various complex employee and labor relations issues identified above
- Interpreting leader and employee needs with independent decision-making authority when advising on utilization of the corrective action process
- Providing strategic and tactical solutions to address issues, while evaluating and escalating matters as appropriate
- Training, coaching, and guiding leaders
- Analyzing data and proactively identifying training and other continuous improvement opportunities
- Articulating and interpreting employment related laws, rules, regulations, and policies to leaders
- Analyzing and recommending modifications to existing policies and procedures
- Maintaining an advanced understanding of employee and labor relations laws, rules, regulations, policies and trends
- Designing triage plans while assembling resources to execute strategic resolutions
- Completing projects as assigned
