This is an individual contributor role reporting into an AVP, Corporate Compliance Officer and is responsible for advancing a risk‑based, data‑driven Compliance program by leveraging automation, analytics, metrics, and emerging technologies (including AI-enabled solutions) and reporting to support regulatory compliance, risk identification, and management oversight.
This role partners closely with Compliance leadership, Legal, Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, Technology, and business stakeholders to design and execute scalable, automated, and defensible analytics and monitoring solutions that demonstrate Compliance program effectiveness, support ongoing monitoring, and enable timely identification and escalation of compliance risks.
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Process Improvement & Program Effectiveness (40%)
- Identify, evaluate, and implement automation and AI-enabled solutions (e.g., workflow automation, intelligent monitoring, anomaly detection, generative AI use cases) to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability of Compliance processes.
- Use data and analytics to identify inefficiencies, control gaps, and opportunities to strengthen and automate Compliance processes.
- Partner with program owners to design and implement process improvements that enhance consistency, scalability, and sustainability.
- Support continuous improvement through trend analysis, root cause assessments, and outcome‑based measurement.
- Plan, execute, and monitor compliance projects using structured project management methodologies. Coordinate cross‑functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to achieve project milestones
- Lead cross-functional teams in root cause analysis and process redesign.
- Ensure adherence to federal and state insurance regulations (e.g., NAIC Model Laws, HIPAA, ACA, GDPR for data privacy).
- Develop and maintain compliance documentation, policies, standards, and audit trails.
- Manage project communications, including status reporting and stakeholder updates
- Support change management, testing coordination, and transition to operations as required
- Track benefits realization and support post‑implementation reviews
- Escalates decisions that materially impact scope, budget, timeline, or risk exposure
Compliance Analytics & Risk Monitoring (20%)
- Design, implement, and maintain data‑driven monitoring and analytics to assess compliance risk, control effectiveness, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Leverage automation and AI techniques to enhance issue detection, reduce false positives, and improve timeliness of risk identification.
- Analyze trends, anomalies, and root causes to identify emerging risks and systemic issues.
Reporting & Management Oversight (20%)
- Produce clear, accurate, and defensible Compliance reporting for senior management, risk committees, and boards.
- Translate complex data into actionable insights and executive‑level narratives that support informed decision‑making.
- Ensure reporting supports regulatory exams, audits, and internal governance forums by providing evidence of effective oversight.
- Act as a trusted advisor to Compliance leadership on analytics, metrics, and risk insights.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Audit to align monitoring activities and reduce duplication.
EPI, KRI, and Metrics Management (10%)
- Develop and maintain Compliance Enterprise Performance Indicators (EPIs), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned with regulatory expectations and enterprise risk appetite.
- Ensure metrics are well‑defined, consistently calculated, and supported by appropriate documentation and governance.
- Evaluate metric thresholds, tolerances, and escalation triggers to ensure timely management action.
Data Governance & Controls (10%)
- Promote strong data governance practices for Compliance‑related data, including data quality, lineage, validation, and documentation.
- Ensure analytics and reporting are supported by appropriate controls and align with enterprise data governance, privacy, and information security standards.
- Partner with Technology and Data teams to enhance data availability, reliability, and automation.
Qualifications
- Process improvement mindset with structured project management skills
- Strong understanding of regulatory expectations for risk‑based compliance programs, monitoring, and management oversight.
- Proven ability to translate regulatory and compliance requirements into meaningful metrics and reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior management and executive-level communication and storytelling.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Analytics, or a related field preferred.
- 5–10+ years of experience in Compliance, Risk Management, Audit, or a related control function, with demonstrated responsibility for analytics, metrics, or reporting.
- Proficiency with analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SQL, advanced Excel).
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
