Job Description

SUMMARY

Oversee the strategy, development, and implementation of communication efforts for business units within Cherokee Nation Cultural & Economic Development (CED). Collaborate with department management on media-related efforts to grow the image of CED both internally and externally to key stakeholders. Drive awareness and adoption of key organizational activities and initiatives, as well as increase employee engagement through strategic programming and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Manages, produces, and executes approved communications strategies across digital platforms, media, Intranet and more.
  • Propels communication strategies centered around key organizational priorities and needs.
  • Builds relationships with media in multiple markets and develops pitch plans for soliciting news stories about our business portfolio.
  • Works closely with various departments to establish and implement communications strategies.
  • Develops and implements communication programming that targets awareness and adoption of activities in support of business growth, community relations, media relations and other areas.
  • Monitors and reports on key performance indicators as needed including quarterly reports in collaboration with other departments.
  • Oversees external resources to ensure deliverables are met on schedule.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

No supervisory/management authority.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in communications, or other related field, and five (5) to seven (7) years of communications or marketing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of AP writing style.
  • Knowledge of creative software, including Adobe.
  • Knowledge of crafting content including a robust writing aptitude.
  • Ability to approach problem-solving creatively and establish meaningful relationships with employees and business partners.
  • Ability to create PowerPoint presentations.
  • Ability to multi-task including excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a variety of settings, including climate-controlled office settings and/or outdoors in all types of weather. Work may require working varied shifts including, weekends and holidays as needed. Work may require travel, including overnight stays.
