SUMMARY

 

Reporting to the Director or Senior Manager, Investment Data Governance, the Senior Business Data Analyst ensures investment applications provide complete, accurate, and timely information to business users each day. The role safeguards data integrity and availability across investment systems through reconciliation, data quality monitoring, pricing integrity, security master and reference data maintenance, and oversight of trade capture across platforms.


The incumbent designs and implements data quality controls, supports data governance best practices, and develops processes and controls for Investment data that enable investment decision-making. The position also manages data vendors to deliver on user requests and to ensure compliance with HOOPP’s vendor management framework. Success requires strong analytical capability, sound business judgment, clear communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines and critical deadlines while contributing actively to team objectives.


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.       Develop and maintain data governance standards, models, and controls;  monitor adherence and recommend improvements.

2.       Execute, create and enhance data integrity reporting to identify and assess potential data issues across investment applications; proactively  maintain data  and ensures ongoing controls are effective. 

3.       Design, develop, and implement data quality checks using the data quality application; automate quality controls where possible and strengthen exception handling and validation procedures. 

4.      Perform detailed business and data analysis to resolve complex data exceptions with vendors and internal stakeholders; own resolution of breaks rather than only reporting issues to others.

5.      Lead investment system releases and data recovery activities  to meet SLAs which enable Finance, Risk, Compliance and Investment Management to utilize data for daily insights, investment reporting and investment decision making.

6.      Build detailed knowledge of investment workflows and respond quickly to data availability, integrity, and completeness issues.


7.      Own security master, reference data, pricing, and market data processes, including consolidation of external sources into a single, trusted version of data and synchronization of positions and transactions across production systems.

8.       Provide end-to-end support for front office and compliance, trading applications, including onboarding, configuration management, and troubleshooting trade flow and data issues across integrated platforms.  

9.       Administer Bloomberg services, including user onboarding, terminal and licensing management, permissions, and configurations to enable trade capture and data flows.

10.   Document business requirements, business processes, and data flows including specifications for new integrity checks and enhancements.

11.   Mentor and support colleagues within the Investment Data Governance team to sustain daily production support and evolving data requirements.  

12.   Participate in all phases of system development projects – requirements, solution selection, analysis/design, data conversion, testing and implementation - with a focus on data integrity and controls.

13.   Coordinate and/or lead cross department initiatives on behalf of Investment Data Governance, managing stakeholder expectations, dependencies, and delivery timelines, support data vendor management activities including procurement, due diligence, forecasting, and invoice management.

14.   Support Master Data Management (MDM) technologies and processes by onboarding new data, configuring system that produce fit-for-purpose data from multiple sources.

15.   Serve as back up for operational tasks as required.

16.   Act as subject matter expert (SME) and business analyst for large projects representing Investment Data Governance

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

·         7+ years of experience in investment and financial systems administration/implementation or investment data management.

·         Post-secondary education in finance or equivalent experience;  Canadian Securities Course preferred.  Progress towards or completion of professional designations (e.g. CFA) is an asset.

·         Strong knowledge of investment management concepts and instruments, including marketable securities, derivatives, private placements and real estate.

·         Highly analytical with strong consulting and problem-solving skills; persistence in addressing root causes is essential.

·         Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and external partners.

·         Strong understanding of capital market space including front office, middle and back-office processes and the supporting technical applications.

 

·         Ability to understand and navigate multi-system investment environments and how different user groups consume and rely on data.

·         Knowledge of accounting and performance reporting requirements is an asset.

·         Proficiency with investment platforms and related tools (e.g., SimCorp Dimension, GoldenSource, SAP HANA, Snowflake, Bloomberg, FundApps and vendor-based front-office trading applications).

·         Experience with data quality tools (e.g., Precisely DQ+) and procedures, relational data concepts, and report development.

·         Proficiency with SQL and Python, and exposure to ETL and business intelligence/reporting tools are strong assets, advanced Excel skills.

·         A.I. fundamentals especially in generative A.I. and applicability to process automation.

·         Understanding of valuation and pricing methodologies across asset classes is an asset.

·         Experience managing data vendors, including contract support, invoice reconciliation, and vendor negotiation/evaluation.

·         Conceptual knowledge and experience with Master Data Management (MDM) technologies.

·         Business analysis experience (e.g. requirements, process mapping, testing and stakeholder management).

The expected annual base salary range for this role is: $103,000 - $153,000 CAD
The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.  
This role is eligible to participate in discretionary incentive plan(s), subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan text.
