We are looking for a Senior Functional System Developer to join our Product Systems and Integration team and help define the future of radio and wireless communication products.
This role is ideal for an experienced systems professional who enjoys transforming complex business, customer, and technology requirements into clear system solutions. You will play a key role in driving technical studies, defining product functionality, influencing architecture decisions, and leading cross-functional collaboration across hardware, software, security, verification, and product management organizations.
In addition to product development responsibilities, you will lead strategic and exploratory studies that shape future product roadmaps, technology investments, and customer solutions.
What You Will Do:
Functional Systemization and Solution Design
- Translate customer, market, regulatory, and product requirements into functional system solutions.
- Define system requirements, use cases, interfaces, behaviors, and acceptance criteria.
- Drive end-to-end functional systemization from concept through implementation, integration, verification, and commercial release.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with long-term product roadmaps.
Lead Complex Technical Studies
- Lead feasibility studies, concept investigations, architecture evaluations, technology assessments, and pre-development activities.
- Analyze complex technical challenges that span multiple domains, products, and organizations.
- Develop recommendations supported by technical analysis, risk assessments, cost-benefit evaluations, and data-driven insights.
- Present findings and influence stakeholders at technical, project, and management decision forums.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership across cross-functional engineering teams.
- Drive system-level problem solving and root cause analysis for complex product issues.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, methodologies, and systemization processes.
- Facilitate technical alignment between product management, systems, software, hardware, verification, and security teams.
Product Security and Compliance
- Ensure secure-by-design principles are considered throughout product development.
- Contribute to security requirement analysis and compliance activities related to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
- Support risk identification and mitigation activities throughout the product lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with software, hardware, integration, verification, program management, and product management teams.
- Build alignment among diverse stakeholders and drive progress across geographically distributed teams.
- Support project planning, estimation, prioritization, and technical decision-making.
Travel: Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

The Skills You Bring:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
- Extensive experience in systems engineering, functional systemization, product development, or a similar technical role.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex technical studies, investigations, or architecture assessments.
- Strong understanding of system design principles and requirement management.
- Experience translating business or customer needs into technical specifications and system solutions.
- Ability to analyze ambiguity, identify root causes, and develop practical technical recommendations.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of wireless communication systems, Radio Access Networks (RAN), telecommunications, or radio products.
- Experience with system architecture, software architecture, or platform evolution activities.
- Experience with secure product development and cybersecurity concepts.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in telecommunications or embedded products.
- Experience working in large-scale, cross-functional global engineering organizations.
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership without direct authority.

Your Pay
The salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, and the candidate's combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
The salary range for this position is
• Ottawa: $129,500CAD - $170,100CAD
Short-Term Variable Compensation Plan: Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit's objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply.

Ericsson offers excellent health benefits including the choice of 3 medical and dental plan options that allow an employee to select the level of coverage that suits their needs. Core level coverage is paid for fully by Ericsson.
Your Financial Security
We invest in both your short and long-term financial wellbeing. Ericsson's Group Retirement & Savings Program offers an automatic 2% company contribution into the Pension Plan. Ericsson also offers a 50% match of employee's contribution into the Registered Retirement Savings Plan, up to 8% of the employee's contribution (maximum of 4% match). This leads to a total company contribution potential of 6%. Employees will also basic life insurance and basic accidental death and dismemberment coverage at two-times annual base pay at no cost, as well as short-term disability coverage. Employees also have the option to participate in Ericsson's Stock Purchase Plan.
Your Time
Your work-life balance is important to us. New employees are provided a minimum of 18 days of accrued vacation, at least 3personal days, minimum 10 holidays, 1 volunteer day, and sick days. Please note paid time off is pro-rated based on the employee's start date. Furthermore, Ericsson provides up to 10 weeks of paid maternity leave and 6 weeks of parental or adoption leave at 100% of pay.
