GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Sr. Application Developer is a highly technical professional who has complete, end-to-end ownership of integration projects that unite platforms supporting our Digital Portals, Operations, and Agency Processing, which service hundreds of thousands of customers daily. The incumbent builds products across the stack and utilizes understanding of APIs, databases, and multiple back-end languages, and web frameworks. The Sr. Application Developer sits on a highly technical team that uses new technology to solve challenges for both the front-end and back-end architecture, ultimately delivering amazing experiences for our partners and customers.
** Position sits in West Des Moines and will work an onsite hybrid schedule**
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads the development of all aspects of agile software development including design, implementation and development of applications supporting our Digital and Operations platforms.
- Designs and provides guidance on building end-to-end systems optimized for speed and scale. Articulates opinions and options that inform the team’s choices.
- Collaborates with team members and other project stakeholders, some of whom may be in other US and non-US locations, to jointly build comprehensive application solutions.
- Provides guidance and code reviews to less senior members of the development team, some whom may be in other US and non-US locations.
- Collaborates across time zones via video conferencing and software such as Microsoft Teams, Jira, and GitHub.
- Sees through a project from conception to finished product.
- Codes, tests, and debugs new and existing applications.
- Creates comprehensive application documentation.
- Provides weekly status reports on all completed, on-going and future projects in order to keep management and business stakeholders updated on progress.
- Works with stakeholders to understand business requirements that are translated into technical solutions.
- Provide guidance to other developers as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, business administration or related field of study; plus four (4) plus year of software development experience.
- Experience in leading the development and execution of web/online/mobile solutions, systems, and products.
- Experience with project management using Agile methodologies (preferably Scrum).
- Experience in unit/integration testing.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:
Web Development Certification is a preferred but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Fluency in one or more back-end languages like Node.js/Python/C#. (Node.js preferred)
- Experience in cloud infrastructure specifically in AWS App Services, S3, DynamoDB, CloudWatch and CloudFormation.
- Experience in DB programming experience (PostgreSQL/NoSQL) - ORM experience a plus.
- Must have some knowledge in REACT, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript.
- Experience with Atlassian tool sets such as JIRA and Confluence, and source code repositories such as Azure DevOps.
- Willingness and ability to articulate opinions and options that inform the team’s choices.
- Excellent debugging and optimization skills. Ability to troubleshoot issues on code you’ve written, as well as code you’ve inherited.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to research issues and products.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Takes initiative; is highly self-motivated and directed.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
