Job Description:

The Senior API Integration Consultant is a technical, client- and vendor-facing role responsible for guiding contracted third-party vendors from agreement through live production use of NextGen Enterprise APIs. The role provides hands-on technical consultation across FHIR, REST, enterprise APIs, authentication, and healthcare data workflows and translates vendor use cases into supported integrations with NextGen EHR and practice-management solutions.
The Senior API Integration Consultant leads vendor engagements through onboarding, application development, sandbox validation, beta implementation, client authorization, production readiness, and go-live. This position delivers billable Professional Services activation engagements that contribute to API program revenue, vendor time-to-production, client integration outcomes, and scalable onboarding practices.
  • Serve as the technical lead for contracted third-party vendors throughout API onboarding, application development, sandbox testing, beta implementation, client authorization, and production go-live.
  • Deliver billable Professional Services activation engagements, including structured production-readiness reviews, route and tier preflight checks, beta-client readiness assessments, gap-remediation plans, and time-boxed beta launch sprints.
  • Provide hands-on technical consultation on FHIR, REST and JSON APIs, web services, authentication, SMART application launch, Bulk FHIR, and modern integration patterns.
  • Evaluate vendor use cases and data requirements and map them to supported API routes, FHIR resources, and NextGen EHR, practice-management, and clinical workflows.
  • Identify API coverage gaps, technical risks, and integration blockers and coordinate appropriate resolution or escalation through Product, Engineering, Support, and program channels.
  • Manage each vendor engagement as a technical project, including scope, milestones, timelines, dependencies, deliverables, launch-blocker triage, and stakeholder communications.
  • Coordinate client-environment readiness, consent and authorization requirements, testing activities, downtime and cutover planning, and rollback considerations among vendors, clients, and internal teams.
  • Prioritize contracted vendors that have not yet reached production by evaluating readiness, dependencies, risk, and business impact and driving each engagement toward a defined next milestone.
  • Ensure activation services are delivered consistently to similarly situated vendors and in alignment with established program, contractual, regulatory, and Professional Services requirements.
  • Partner with Business Development, Support, Product, Engineering, Client Success, Sales, and other internal teams to resolve blockers and align on vendor go-live outcomes.
  • Track engagement time, deliverables, milestones, and outcomes to support accurate Professional Services billing, utilization reporting, and API program revenue objectives.
  • Develop and improve enablement materials, technical documentation, readiness tools, and repeatable playbooks that reduce onboarding friction and support program scalability.
  • Provide feedback to Product and program leadership regarding recurring technical blockers, API route gaps, vendor needs, and process improvements that affect time-to-production and client integration outcomes.
  • Support production-scale adoption and stabilization of newly activated vendor integrations, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Education Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, health informatics, information systems, or a related field.
  • Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Experience Required:
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in technical integration, API or software integration, solution consulting, implementation consulting, or Professional Services within a healthcare technology or SaaS environment.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience working with RESTful APIs, FHIR, HL7, web services, authentication protocols, and modern integration practices.
  • Experience independently leading complex technical integration engagements from initial discovery and solution mapping through testing, production readiness, and go-live.
  • Experience working directly with third-party vendors, developers, clients, or partners to resolve technical issues and deliver integrations into production environments.
  • Experience with NextGen Enterprise EHR and practice-management solutions or a comparable healthcare technology platform, including clinical, administrative, and revenue-cycle data workflows.
  • Experience evaluating technical requirements, identifying integration gaps and risks, and determining appropriate remediation or escalation paths.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent technical engagements, including scope, timelines, dependencies, deliverables, priorities, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Experience coordinating technical work across Product, Engineering, Support, Client Success, Sales, or comparable cross-functional teams.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, readiness assessments, implementation plans, gap-remediation plans, or repeatable delivery processes.
  • Experience delivering billable consulting or Professional Services engagements preferred.
License/Certification Required:
  • Project management, healthcare interoperability, cloud, integration, or other relevant technical certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of: RESTful APIs, JSON, web services, OAuth 2.0, token-based authentication, and secure integration patterns. Healthcare interoperability standards and frameworks, including FHIR, HL7, USCDI, SMART application launch, and Bulk FHIR. EHR and practice-management data structures and associated clinical, administrative, and revenue-cycle workflows. API onboarding and activation processes, including sandbox testing, beta implementation, client authorization, production readiness, cutover, and stabilization. Software development lifecycle, testing, troubleshooting, technical readiness assessment, and data-access scoping. Applicable healthcare interoperability, privacy, data-access, and regulatory requirements. Technical project delivery and billable Professional Services practices.
  • Skill in: Leading complex vendor and client API integrations from onboarding through production go-live. Translating business use cases, data requirements, and workflows into supported API and interoperability solutions. Assessing production readiness and diagnosing API, authentication, data-access, workflow, and environment-related issues. Identifying technical risks, dependencies, and launch blockers and developing appropriate remediation or escalation plans. Managing concurrent technical engagements, priorities, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Communicating complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences. Developing technical documentation, readiness assessments, gap-remediation plans, and repeatable delivery playbooks. Coordinating technical issue resolution across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to: Independently guide contracted vendors from onboarding through live production use of NextGen Enterprise APIs. Exercise judgment in evaluating technical readiness, risks, gaps, and appropriate resolution or escalation paths. Balance multiple vendor engagements, competing priorities, dependencies, and business commitments. Adapt integration approaches to differing vendor use cases, client environments, and technical constraints. Deliver consistent, high-quality billable services in accordance with program, contractual, and regulatory requirements. Influence outcomes and collaborate effectively across technical, business, client, and vendor stakeholders. Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements that reduce vendor time-to-production and support program scalability.
