Job Summary:

The Plan Operations Analytics Group at HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) is looking for an experienced individual to fill a permanent, full-time Senior Data Scientist role for the Analytics Team. The team delivers insights, analytics, reporting, data governance and subject matter expertise in data warehouse knowledge.

What you will do:

Business Delivery

  • Lead the business delivery of projects and initiatives and collaborate with the business stakeholders to ensure the deliverables that meet their overall objectives, while also meeting the Pension Operations objectives.

  • Execute, evolve the business analytics product vision and product roadmap, including use/acquisition and evaluation of analytics tools,

  • Work with business to identify, specify and refine analytics requirements, including data analysis and continued expansion of data dictionary

  • Establish a process to prioritize the requirements into the backlog and communicate the status of the prioritization results

  • Perform triage and prioritization of business needs as ongoing analytics, ad hoc requests, data analytics, and project streams are identified

  • Be the advocate for the business, articulating its vision, anticipating its needs, and gaining buy-in

  • Oversee solution development, evaluate progress, and make decisions/recommendations on product deliverables

  • Communicate with stakeholders to ensure objectives are clear and met

Strategic Analytics

  • Provides strategic Analytics such as forecasts, projections and high-level overview as well as operational (e.g. processing or phone statistics) reporting to management

  • Provides daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual or ad hoc reporting as required by utilizing standard reports or builds.  Extracts data from sources such as data warehouse, as well as converts operation-specific data into reports.

  • Develop broad subject matter expertise in data and perform an in-depth analysis of data to gather insights and communicate results.

  • Provides analytics support and data solutions to all areas of HOOPP as required by analysis and communication, acting on requests for data and reporting information.  Contributes to the structure of databases, drafting of queries, compiling of CRM operational type analytics to all departments.

  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.

  • Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc. Excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable

  • Provides statistical analysis and interpretation in clear user language on data information and provides written summary reporting as well as communication on that analysis. Ability to synthesize large datasets into clear actionable decision-making for presentation to Management.

  • Facilitates the integration of multiple data sources (data warehouse, portals, dashboards, reports, systems) into specific solutions to answer reporting needs using all relevant data. This is to meet HOOPP’s immediate and future information needs in collaboration with IT. 

  • Creates develops and maintains analytics platforms.

  • Visual in nature including comfortable whiteboarding complex data models and data flow

  • Excellent Requirements documentation (clear, concise)

  • Has strong trust and confidence in team and business. Is the GO-TO person for the details.

  • Able to recommend solutions to the business problem and think outside of the box by being creative.

  • Ability to break features into small chunks (that can be delivered on a weekly basis)

Additional Skills and Abilities

  • Able and comfortable in working with all levels of management to understand, and when needed negotiate requirements and priorities

  • Solid communication skills to interact across organizations and offer insights to the business.

  • Background in mathematics, data analytics and reporting technologies

  • Knowledge of Excel, R, Python and MS SQL Server; familiarity with analytics tools specifically Power BI

  • Knowledge of relational database structures and applications.

  • Competency in agile software development
