Job Summary

Position is responsible for performing complex accounting and financial analysis assignments for the System. Contributes to the accuracy of financial statements and develops impactful analytics. Recommends changes in accounting systems and procedures. Approves reconciliations, provides guidance and training to accounting staff, and supports hospital financial management and administration.Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; Advanced degree preferred

Licenses/Certifications: Certified Public Accountant preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of accounting work experience

  • Advanced financial accounting knowledge and experience required

  • Skills must include analytical capabilities sufficient for providing and interpreting variance analysis

  • Experience retrieving data from ERP system and Business Intelligence software

  • Advanced level Excel skills to include pivot tables, vlookup and macros, etc.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Compiles and analyzes complex financial information to prepare and upload journal entries to the general ledger, including the consolidation of business units and corresponding eliminating entries, to prepare system financials. Ensures the accuracy of the recorded transactions. Supports month-end close process by reviewing journal entries prepared by accounting staff, researching variances, and communicating findings to management.

  • Reconciles complex general ledger accounts with various monthly statements (bank statements, sub-system ledgers), makes adjustments as necessary, and reports material variances to management. Approves reconciliations prepared by accounting staff.

  • Prepares schedules for financial reporting to internal and external sources, to include auditor requests. Compiles and reviews financial data in the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.

  • Analyzes and interprets expenses, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. Prepares financial reports for all levels of management and discerns important trends that can be used by management for decision making. Liaises with departments across the organization, to include finance executives. Assists with the preparation of annual budget schedules (ex. supply chain, lab, pharmacy service lines, leases, debt, derivatives, joint ventures, etc.). Trains, supports and presents complex accounting matters to operations and finance teams across the System.

  • Ensures compliance with accounting and reporting deadlines. Identifies and communicates accounting compliance issues and discrepancies.

  • Works on complex accounting and cross-departmental projects which include preparing complex financial analyses.  Documents, identifies, and provides recommendations for process improvements and controls.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

  • Adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.

Skills Required
