POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring accurate revenue reporting, strong internal controls, and timely financial close activities within a global manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ASC 606 revenue recognition, cutoff testing, customer billing, AR‑related reconciliations, and analysis of key commercial programs including commissions, rebates, and warranty reserves. The position also supports automation initiatives, SOX compliance, sales/use tax filings, internal/external audits, and annual reporting requirements to our parent company, Amsted Industries.
This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented, analytical accounting professional who enjoys working cross‑functionally with Sales, Operations, Customer Service, and Finance to ensure the integrity of revenue‑related financial data.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Execute cutoff revenue testing during month‑end and quarter‑end close to ensure accurate period reporting.
- Review sales orders, shipping documents, and invoicing activity to validate revenue timing and completeness.
- Audit sales order changes to ensure proper authorization, pricing integrity, and compliance with internal controls.
- Support project accounting with large customer contract tracking and accounting as needed.
- Process daily systematic billing and ad hoc billing adjustments, ensuring accuracy of pricing, terms, freight, taxes, and supporting documentation.
- Partner with IT, Customer Service, and Sales to automate billing workflows, reduce manual touchpoints, and improve billing accuracy and automation.
- Maintain and update customer tax exemption certificates, ensuring compliance with state and local tax regulations.
- Analyze commission expense and related liability, ensuring accurate accruals and timely settlement.
- Track, reconcile, and settle customer rebate agreements, including volume‑based rebates, growth incentives, and promotional programs.
- Support of monthly filings for state sales & use tax
- Analyze historical warranty claims, trends, and cost drivers to support the warranty reserve calculation and prepare quarterly reserve roll‑forwards and adjustments.
- Perform standard month-end closing responsibilities such as journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement reviews.
- Support internal and external audits, providing schedules, documentation, and explanations as needed.
- Participate in annual SOX testing and ensuring compliance with key controls.
- Assist with annual reporting requirements to our parent company, Amsted Industries, including revenue disclosures, AR schedules, sales by location and other Revenue/AR based reporting requirements.
- Identify and execute process, internal control, cost savings, and financial performance improvements.
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Accounting Manager and will interact with all members of the finance team including BAC Plant Controllers, Amsted internal audit and external auditors, plant operations teams and various groups within the BAC business. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, analytical professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys collaborating across business functions to support financial integrity and business decision-making.
The assigned location for this position is the Jessup HQ Office.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
- A minimum of 3-6 years of accounting experience in a larger business unit (greater than $500m annually in revenue)
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, especially ASC 606
- Familiarity with sales tax rules and exemption certificate management.
- Internal controls/SOX and SOD experience preferred
- Strong systems and ERP knowledge. SAP ERP (S/4 HANA) knowledge preferred
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel with the ability to perform a wide range of formulas, keyboard shortcuts and macros in a variety of different scenarios
- Experience leveraging AI within accounting processes and responsibilities
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Working knowledge of general finance, banking, terms and conditions, and legal terminology
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects to meet specific deadlines
BAC Hiring Compensation Range $69,100- $118,400
