The Splicer position is a mid-level to senior level construction worker that can perform both aerial and underground cable and fiber installation work, splice fiber, and has a good working knowledge of aerial and underground rules and regulations. , the Fiber Technician will be expected to undertake a lead and/or a foreman role in the field for both aerial and underground fiber related work. In Addition, technician will be working with DWDM light meters, OSAM's, tunable light sources, OTDR, CWDM, DWDM, single channel and mux wave management, piggy backed parent/child enclosure setups, FTTu, FTTh, RFoG, Matrix CREATION, Fiber as-built's and terminology. Able to troubleshoot and repair problems utilizing optical test equipment such as OTDRs, OSAMs, Fiber Identifiers, scopes and proper fiber standards and practices. Should be Familiar with OLT/PON cards and equipment, Patch panel and relay rack management and fiber connector preparation and care.
- Terminate, splice, and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures including both loose tube fiber and ribbon fiber.
- Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter and OTDR.
- Knowledge of applicable electronic equipment and specialty tools
- Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber, effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required.
- Be available for 7day/24-hour, standby periods every 2 weeks.
- Climb and use ladders on poles for accessing aerial fiber plant.
- Perform aerial construction activities, including but not limited to, installing aerial fiber, installing fiber storage (snowshoes), completing pole transfers, and performing cleanup work
- Perform underground construction activities, including pulling new cable/fiber through conduits, digging up and repairing damaged conduit and underground vaults or pedestals.
- Ability to travel and stay overnight within the coverage area.
- Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Salary Range
$25.00 to $29.00 per hour
Education and/or Experience: Minimum of two (2) years in cable construction and/or engineering experience with a thorough understanding of all aspects relative to HFC architectures.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of splicing experience in telecommunications or utility industry.
- Proven ability to understand and follow directions.
- Must have a basic command of the English language to understand the safety requirements of the position.
Technical Skills:
- Must be able to record and organize paperwork via hardcopy and electronic format.
- Organized with a strong attention to detail and capable of working with minimum supervision.
- Must be able to read, comprehend and interpret site plans, construction drawings and scopes of work.
- Thorough understanding of the local permitting process and requirements for all work activities requiring permits, including traffic control.
- Must be able to create materials list based on plans/scope of work, order, and compile materials for crew in advance of deployment.
- Industrial First Aid and CPR certifications and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in construction skills, including underground and aerial telecommunication construction techniques, fiber splicing techniques, emergency restoration practices, and general industry knowledge.
- Job related certifications such as safety, fiber training and experience with various manufacturers.
- Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 75 lbs.
- Travel to work sites 75-80% of the time.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time on varied surfaces.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing.
- May be required to work long and unpredictable hours, including work after normal business hours in the event physical restoration of fiber plant is needed.
- Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
