Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Specialty Software Engineering Manager (Data Platform Engineering) within Technology, aligned to the Enterprise Functions Technology Group. This role sits within the Workplace Technology Instrumentation Engineering Team, which is building a next-generation data platform to serve as the foundational data layer enabling Wells Fargo's transformation into a product-centric organization.
The Senior Specialty Software Engineering Manager (Data Platform Engineering) plays a critical role in delivering the current state of the platform while driving the implementation of the target-state architecture-including advanced analytics, data governance, and streamlined solutions for onboarding and managing data. This leader will also enable new platform capabilities (Agentic and GPT) and elevate the skills of the existing engineering team.
In this role, you will:
- Lead, coach, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers, fostering a strong engineering culture and ensuring teams deliver high-quality capabilities using modern technology.
- Drive adherence to enterprise architecture, security, and non-functional requirements while guiding modernization efforts such as cloud readiness, application modernization, and data strategy.
- Serve as the technical representative for the product, collaborating across teams, influencing architects and product partners, and shaping the product roadmap and technical direction.
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle, identifying and resolving technical roadblocks, acting as an escalation partner for teams, and removing impediments to deliver moderate- to high-risk initiatives.
- Build engineering excellence through hands-on guidance-peer reviews, design leadership, and ensuring the security, stability, and scalability of solutions while proactively managing technology and enterprise risk.
- Manage staffing and financial resources, partner with third-party vendors, and hire and develop talent to ensure the organization has the skills required to deliver on strategic priorities.
- 6+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 3+ years of management or leadership experience
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field or extensive leadership experience in a software engineering function.
- Expertise in public and private cloud technologies
- Understanding of advanced data management and data cloud technologies
- Understanding and implementation of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies
- Proven experience leading data engineering or platform engineering teams within a modern cloud environment.
- Deep expertise in data architecture, including data modeling, data pipelines, and governance frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with modern data engineering tools and technologies (e.g., Python, SQL, Spark, Databricks).
- Demonstrated ability to implement advanced analytics or AI/LLM capabilities within a data platform.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing, mentoring, and upskilling technical teams.
