Nationwide Pet is looking to add a QE to the team. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Playwright, Experience testing Angular or comparable single-page applications, Experience testing REST APIs, JSON payloads, authentication, error handling, schemas, CRUD operations, and service integrations, Proficiency with Postman, Bruno, or Playwright API testing. Experience integrating automated tests into GitHub Actions, Harness, Jenkins, or equivalent CI/CD tools. Experience transitioning or maintaining existing Tosca automation while building code-based Playwright automation.

This role supports our Pet business and will align with Pacific Time (PT) business hours.

The position may be based in Columbus, Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa; or Scottsdale, Arizona. Current remote associates will also be considered. This role follows a hybrid work model, with employees working in the office two days per week.

As a Quality Engineer, you’ll plan and conduct a wide range of software quality tests and analyses to ensure all application products and services meet organizational standards aligned to their quality management approach, as well as, end-user requirements. All Quality Engineers perform quality planning, quality design, and execution.
You’ll focus on a blend of skills enabling efficient execution of risk-based testing, test automation, performance testing, test data management, test environment management, continuous integration, and continuous deployment, all aimed at improving delivery speed for our business partners.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partners with architects to shape solution options, ensure product roadmaps and capabilities align with target architecture and technical guardrails, and proactively surface architectural impacts and trade-offs during planning.

  • Designs, tests, and operationalizes high-value quality engineering use cases that are ethically sound, data-informed, and tightly aligned to client outcomes, product strategies, and operating models.

  • Conducts rigorous, ongoing analysis of testing trends, automation capabilities, and emerging technologies, translating insights into clear recommendations, business cases, and product strategies that shape client roadmaps and high-impact consulting engagements.

  • Ensures systems and services meet organizational standards and end-user requirements.

  • Reviews requirements, user stories, and technical artifacts to support test design and automation.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Defines and executes test strategies using a mix of manual, automated, and exploratory approaches to accelerate delivery.

  • Utilizes standard QE tools for test data, automation, performance, security, and regression testing.

  • Manages defects end to end, including identification, prioritization, tracking, and resolution.

  • Validates test results, maintains traceability from requirements to outcomes, and ensures quality coverage. Reports on results for stakeholders.

  • Coordinates test execution, environments, and release validation, including backout planning.

  • Drives continuous improvement, supports CI/CD pipelines, and ensures efficiency without compromising quality.

  • Aligns with testing architecture and complies with release management governance and timelines.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships:  Reports to a Technology Manager or Director.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field are preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications including TOSCA Automated Specialist 1 (AS1), TOSCA Automated Specialist 2 (AS2), or other related designations are preferred.
Experience: Four or more years of experience using test optimization and automation processes and tools. Demonstrated experience in testing for agile teams, including planning, test plan creation, maintenance, and execution. Good understanding of test automation and optimization throughout a stack and the tools to support.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong analytical and communication skills, knowledge of planning. Ability to solve problems and set priorities as needed. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.
Other criteria, including leadership or technical skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

The expected starting salary range for Specialist, Quality Engineer : $95,500.00 - $143,500.00
