The Pulmonary Specialist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with respiratory and lung-related conditions. This role involves providing expert care in both outpatient and inpatient settings, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive pulmonary care.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients presenting with symptoms of respiratory and lung diseases.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as pulmonary function tests (PFTs), chest X-rays, CT scans, bronchoscopy, and other imaging modalities to diagnose conditions such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, lung cancer, and interstitial lung disease.
  • Treatment and Management:
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, including inhalers, bronchodilators, and corticosteroids, as well as recommend lifestyle modifications to improve respiratory health.
  • Perform or supervise procedures such as bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, and pleural biopsies as required.
  • Patient Care and Monitoring:
  • Provide ongoing care and monitoring for patients with chronic pulmonary conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary fibrosis.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of treatments and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaboration and Consultation:
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including thoracic surgeons, radiologists, nurses, and primary care physicians, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and patient care conferences to determine the best course of treatment for complex cases.
