Kumba Iron Ore               

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As Specialist Intelligence & Investigations your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

 

Safety, Health, and Environment:

  • Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations practices, and compliance with all applicable SHE policies and procedures within Kumba standards.
  • Support a culture that focuses on safety in all operations.

Intelligence & Investigations:

  • Oversee the intelligence collection processes.
  • Review risk and translate it into intelligence requirements.
  • Define intelligence requirements and update continuously.
  • Provide expert intelligence input to senior leadership through verbal and written briefings.
  • Drive the use of best practices to improve intelligence practices continually.
  • Consult with group security intelligence and other external partners.
  • Conduct change management and communication program to onboard security function and other relevant Kumba functions (e.g., Corporate Affairs and P&O), with the support of the Principal Security and Intelligence.
  • Manage analysis reports/dashboards for intelligence users (e.g., other AA functions, Group Security)
  • Investigate Ethics Committee cases that are highly sensitive and could cause severe reputational damage to KIO.
  • Manage and lead a team of investigators, including contracted/outsourced investigators at HO and all other Kumba sites.
  • Support the Manager Security Services to prevent the growing threat of industrial espionage, illegal eavesdropping, and surveillance.
  • Enable the company, its employees, and other stakeholders to conduct business free from illicit threats and unlawful interference.
  • Monitor exploration, mining, processing, and in transit (on roads, airspace, and across borders).
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements by conducting market analysis, networking, and international and local benchmarking.
  • Ensure all businesses comply with corporate governance and policies and statutory, legal, and other requirements.

People and Teams:

  • Network, promote teamwork, provide support, and advise and influence performance to give effect to the intelligence strategy.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements by conducting market analysis, networking, and international and local benchmarking.
  • Ensure all businesses comply with corporate governance and policies and statutory, legal, and other requirements.
  • Develop periodic reports on ongoing investigations and other investigation statistics for critical stakeholders.

This role is in Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) department on a Band 6 (D-Upper) level reporting to the Principal Security & Intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 /N3 Technical
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Forensic investigations (NQF7)
  • Registered with Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority Grade
  • Registration with PSIRA A Grade
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Certificate is preferred
  • No Criminal Record
  • Pass the Polygraph Test
  • Firearms training and Competence (to be provided)
  • SA Drivers Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)

Technical Knowledge

  • 6-8 years of relevant experience in intelligence and investigations, preferably in the mining industry.
  • Understanding of project management fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in data analysis.
  • Familiarity with new technologies and their impact on intelligence activities.
  • Knowledge of intelligence tools and techniques.
  • Understanding of business acumen, commercial drivers affecting site performance, and the impact of disruption on operations.
  • Basic understanding of financial metrics, cost and value management, and budgeting tools.
  • Familiarity with risk management techniques and critical controls.
  • Understanding safety, health, environment, legislative, statutory, regulatory, and permitting requirements.
