The Special Needs Coordinator provides quality proactive services to clients who need medically required equipment.  This position provides all medical equipment purchases including vehicles and the modification of vehicles.  They provide advice to case owners about medical equipment to ensure timely services and equipment are provided. 

Your Special Needs Coordinator responsibilities:

The Specials Needs Coordinator maintains timely communication and documentation with external and internal customers, vendors, and providers, coordinating the procurement and delivery of medical equipment as recommended by the Occupational Therapist (OT) and authorized by the Claim Owner (CO).  The Special Needs Coordinator regularly work with claimants’ majority special needs, to establish an appropriate plan of action to address all issues relevant to vehicle modifications and medical equipment, then recommends assessments or purchases as necessary. Other responsibilities include:

  • Investigating alternatives to provide optimal, cost-effective services to severely injured work, educate clients, employers, service providers and the general public on policies, procedures, and services in regard to special needs and medical equipment.
  • Educate CO’s and various stakeholders about the processes for submitting quotes, advice on whether purchase or rental is feasible, the type of equipment needed, and who to contact if there are concerns with the equipment, etc.
  • Solicit bids, review, and analyze quotes and award contract to appropriate vendor.
  • Manage and oversee the recycle pool of equipment we have in Edmonton & Calgary.

Your experience and skills:

  • Diploma or degree in business/administrative education with a minimum of 2 years’ experience with medical assistive devices for permanently disabled clients.
  • Purchasing experience, preferably in the medical field and knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated independent decision-making skills and the ability to work in a high-volume work environment.
  • Exceptional communication and investigative skills along with strong interpersonal, relationship building and negotiating skills are required.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel and WCB systems.
  • Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act.

Salary:   Pay Grade 8    $57,910  to $68,085 per annum

This position is temporary for a period of up to six months with the possibility of extension or permanency. Final candidates for this position are required to undergo a security clearance as a condition of employment.
